Iris George

1926 - 2018

Iris Hazel Gunter George was called to be with Lord on April 23, 2018 at the age of 91. She will reunited with her beloved husband for over 70 years, Emile "Johnny" George. She was born on August 10, 1926 in Agricola, Mississippi and later moved to Mobile with her family. She worked alone side her mother in a family grocery business. After she married Emile, they worked together in the family business, "John George Jewelers", located in downtown Mobile. Iris was preceded in death by her mother and father, Idelle and John Bruce Gunter, her brothers; Arnold, Haskell, Cleveland, John Bruce Junior, her sisters; Patricia Raynor, Jackie Watts, Jewell "Billy " Gunter, her grandchild Kenny Paul Faris, and her beloved husband Johnny George. Iris was the Matriarch of three generations. She is survived by her four children ; Patricia Faris, Christopher George, Steve (Karen) George, and Sherrie (Tom) Kelley. She was the grandmother to fourteen grandchildren; Angelina Phillips, Christopher Dean, Tina Faris, Teresa Faris, Eli, Nathan, Daniel, Jacob, Caleb George, Stephanie Stevens, Tiffany Northington, Austin Kelley, Alexander Kelley and Ivy George. She had fourteen great-grandchildren: Matthew Dean, Chrissa Dean, Hannah Graham, Kayla Boatwright, Chloe, Zach, Josiah Northington, Coraline and Maxwell Stevens, Avery, Brendan, Emme George, Mia George, and Shophia Vicens. Deeply loved by her family and the many friends she made along the way she will be missed. Her kind spirit and willingness to forgive left her heart always open to love. She is now surrounded by God's Peace and Love and everyone that made her happy; her family. Funeral services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 2pm Visitation will begin at 1pm, with the interment to follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
