Daniel Shanahan Obituary

Daniel Shanahan
April 22, 1944 - September 2, 2022
Sebastopol, California - Daniel was an extraordinary man, a true "car-junkie", always looking for a "barn find", and lucky enough to find a few. A man of few words, a heart as deep as the sea. He was loving, caring, a true love of his favorite charities, animals and his friends. He was loyal and spoke wisdom and truth. If you were fortunate enough to know him, your life would be changed forever. He will never be forgotten and deeply missed. Words are indescribable for our loss.

I am trying to find the next of kin for Mr. Daniel Shanahan. My husband and I have purchased what we believe is a 1966 Ford F-250 truck (marlin blue over whimbledon white) that he built and/or owned. I live in Oklahoma, and only have documents from the truck showing previous ownership linked to him. I have not been able to find another contact for his family members in doing my own research. I am hoping a friend can pass this message on to his family. We would love to speak to them about the wonderful truck that we now own here in Oklahoma. Contact me at [email protected]

Any information you can help with would be greatly appreciated.

Daniel and I dated off and on through many years and I loved him dearly. The last time I saw him was when he came to see me in Bogota Colombia one summer. I turned down his offer of a trip to Rio, and I've regretted it ever since. Daniel was a good, good man. Oh, how I miss him!

Daniel was a wonderful patron and supporter of mine. He commissioned three fairly major paintings from me, and I will be forever grateful. The final piece was unusual in that he had so many ideas and such passion about including them, which I was more than happy to do. It was a depiction of his beloved dog Betzy, sitting in his F-150 with a vase of daffodils, ready to hit the road. He asked me if there was any way to add a cop, which you can see in the passenger mirror, writing a ticket. When Daniel saw the finished painting, he just laughed and laughed, which I took as a deep compliment. Thank you, my friend, for your unwavering generosity and good cheer. I will miss you.

I remembered Dan, when my step dad Harry painted some of his cars. I was just talking some of the people Harry knew. It was a surprise to find out that he passed away. I remembered taking a trip to Dans house to deliver a car portrait that my dad did for him after my father passed away. Such a nice man and great car lover. RIP Daniel I wish I would of known you more!!!

Heard a song from the 60's on the radio today that reminded me of Daniel when we lived in Modesto, so I decided to look him up. I was saddened to see that he had passed, and sorry I was too late to reach out to him. Loved our friendship. Rest in peace my friend.

When Daniel visited me in Bogota, Colombia one summer years ago, as we were at the airport getting ready to return to Modesto, he said, "Come on, Andi. Let's fly to Rio." I said, "I can't. I've got too much to do." He tried and tried to talk me into it, but I said no. I've regretted that decision ever since. Wish we had gone to Rio!

I miss Daniel so much. I knew him since high school. We had a shared past in Modesto. We had lots in common. And we always liked to talk with each other. We never had an argument! I miss our nightly conversations the last few years. I miss hearing all about his adventures buying and selling cars and his "mechanical therapy" days down at his shop. I miss the rides in his car and going fun places. Daniel loved to drive and I loved to ride. It was just perfect! And he loved the pictures I took and sent him. I'm so glad to have had the pleasure of knowing him for so long!
