David Boyd Obituary

David Boyd
September 13, 1945 - January 30, 2021
Salida, California - The Lord called faithful servant, David Elden Boyd, home on January 30, 2021. He peacefully passed, with Phyllis by his side. He was in his 75th year.
Dave was born in Palestine, Ohio on September 13, 1945 to parents, Walter and Glenna Boyd. Following his high school graduation, he embarked on the first of many cross-country road trips. He headed west to California, ultimately deciding to call the Golden State home. Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Phyllis, who was to become his treasured wife. He embraced every moment with her and they were practically inseparable for nearly 50 years of marriage. They chose the Salida community as their home. Together, they had two children, Rita and Eric.
Dave was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Glenna. He is survived by wife, Phyllis, daughter, Rita (grandchildren, CJ, Peter, Gabriella), son, Eric (Wendy; grandchildren; Levi, Devyn), brother, Donovon, sister, Dorothy Petersime (Dave), nephew, Tim Petersime(Jodi; Hannah, Ian, Grant), niece, Amy Floria (Norm; Austin, Mason).
Dave lived a life of distinction, hallmarked by dedication, generosity and a heartfelt desire to serve. He began a career in the trucking industry shortly after moving to California. He was first employed by Don Beachler, who became a lifelong mentor and friend, pivotal in Dave's growth in Christ. While trucking continued to be his "day job", Dave chose to serve the community of Salida as a volunteer firefighter. His leadership skills, talent and work ethic did not go unnoticed, as he rose through the ranks of the organization. In 1990, he assumed the role of assistant fire chief at SFD on a full-time basis. He retired in 2005. A day later, he came out of retirement to join the team at Golden State Fire Apparatus.
Dave has worn many hats in service to God and his community. Whether it was in his role at SFD, as an active member and deacon at Ripon Grace Brethren Church, as local BBQ "pit master" (or pit dictator, according to some sources!), father or friend, Dave has left a permanent mark etched on the hearts of many.
Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort knowing he has shed the limitations of his mortal coil. He was prepared and eager to meet his Lord and Savior. He has joined the saints of yesteryear in Heavenly chorus, as they lift their voices in praise of our Heavenly Father.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, February 12, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel; 111 S. Palm Ave, Ripon, California.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Wood Colony Cemetery; 3511 N. Dakota Ave, Modesto, California.
Memorial donations may be made in Dave Boyd's honor to Ripon Grace Brethren Church; 734 West Main Street, Ripon, California, 95366.
