Everett Wenstrand Obituary
Everett L. Wenstrand
November 7, 1933 - March 16, 2023
Hilmar, California - Mr. Everett Laverne Wenstrand, a longtime Central Valley resident and businessman, passed to his Heavenly home March 16, 2023, surrounded by family. He was 89.
Everett was born Nov. 7, 1933, to Harold N. Wenstrand and Anna R. (Gustafson) Wenstrand in Albert City, Iowa. He graduated from Turlock High School and worked at many chicken ranches as well as Youngdale's and for the Turlock Irrigation District. He served in the Army during the Korean War where he played the trombone. Upon discharge, he returned to Turlock and a life of family and entrepreneurship.
His early endeavors included a laundromat, carpet cleaning, and pallet refurbishing, later growing his businesses into trucking services and a lumberyard in Delhi, CA. Everett enjoyed vehicles his whole life and, in his earlier years, even toured the country on his orange Honda Gold Wing with fellow motorcycle-enthusiast friends. He was a devoted member of both Beulah and Hilmar Covenant Churches, where his ministry included singing in the choir, serving as usher, and many board positions.
Since he never officially retired, Everett could be found most weekends selling antiques at shows across Northern California and during the week at his store, Irwin City Antiques in Hilmar, CA. Always interested in the people and stories behind the items, he delighted in the interactions and connections the antiques world brought into his life.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Sharon and their baby son Gregg, and Jacqueline Wenstrand, mother of his living children. He is survived by his wife Beverly, son Michael Wenstrand, daughter-in-law Helen Kamali, granddaughter Lola Wenstrand, daughter Sarah Wenstrand, son-in-law Troy White, grandchildren Amber and Porter Wenstrand White, sisters Deloris Carlson of Kent, WA, Erlene Swanson of Delhi, CA, and many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren of his and Beverly's family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in his name to Adult & Teen Challenge, P.O. Box 611, Turlock, CA 95831, and Merced County Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 3319, Merced, CA 95344.
After a family graveside gathering, a memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 28, at noon at Hilmar Covenant Church followed by luncheon at the adjoining Family Center.
