Josephine Coleman Obituary

Josephine Marie Ellen Coleman
June 28, 1920 - August 27, 2015
Josephine Coleman passed away peacefully on August 27th, 2015 in Modesto, California.  She had just turned 95.
Predeceased by her parents, Michael and Florry, brother, Bernard, sister-in-law, Irene and nephew Gregory.  She will be lovingly and forever remembered by her nephews and nieces Claire, Michael, Dan, Mary, Kathleen, Paul and Barbara, along with her fourteen great and great-great nephews and nieces.
Jo was born on June 28th, 1920 in Winnipeg, Canada where she attended St. Mary's Academy.  During WWII, Jo worked for the British Air Commission (RAF Delegation) in Washington D.C.  After briefly returning to Canada, she immigrated to the United States, settling in San Diego where she worked for Union Bank for twenty-six years.  Several years after her retirement, Jo moved to Modesto, California, to be close to family.
Jo had a wonderful sense of humor, a sharp wit and a deep religious faith. Her love of travel and courageous spirit took her to many places around the world.  Always thinking of others, she selflessly volunteered for a number of causes, among them, Memorial Medical in Modesto and Scripts Hospital in San Diego.  Jo was a proud life-long member of the Young Ladies Institute, participated in the St. Stanislaus Seniors and was an active community member of Ralston Towers.
A dear friend to many and a wonderful aunt to us all, Jo will be dearly missed. She is in God's hands now.
The family would like to thank Paul, Mary Lou, Gloria and the nurses and staff at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House for the care and comfort they provided Jo.
A funeral mass and celebration of Jo's life will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church (709 J Street, Modesto CA 95354) at 10am on Thursday, September 24, 2015, reception to follow.

So many of Jo's friends in San Diego were sorry to hear of her passing. I knew her through YLI because my Mom was a member. Jo and my Mom were in Canasta Club together. It was a group that played cards together for many years. Jo also shared Thanksgiving with our family at times. I spoke to her on the phone several times in the early part of 2015 when some mutual friends of ours passed away. Her friends in San Diego would love to have some prayer cards or programs from her service if there are any available. I'm listed in the San Diego phone directory. Sending my condolences. I know Jo is at peace now enjoying the Heavenly company of family and friends.

My deepest sympathy on the loss of your love one. We look to God's guidance and strength during these difficult times. He states in his Word at Psalms 29: 11, "He will give strength to his people. He will bless his people with peace."
