Robert Meyer Obituary

Robert Meyer

December 13, 1942 - April 7, 2024

Oakdale, California - Robert (Bob) Meyer lived his entire life in Oakdale, California. He was very proud of his Oakdale heritage. He graduated from Oakdale High School in 1960. He then attended MJC and upon graduation Bob went to work for Wells Fargo Bank. During that time, he helped open the Wells Fargo branch in Oakdale. He worked six years at the bank and then worked three years for Ed Zimmerman Insurance. Then in 1972, he started doing what he loved, selling cars. He went to work for his uncle, Sam Marchetti, who owned the Dodge dealership in Oakdale. When his Uncle Sam retired in 1978, he went to work for the Haidlen Family at Haidlen Ford in Oakdale. He was a salesperson there for over 40 years.

Bob was known for his dedication and integrity. He was involved in the community in numerous ways. He started at an early age giving back to his community. When he was 18 he volunteered for the Oakdale Rural Fire Department. In the 60's, he was a State Director for the Jaycee's, he was elected as an Oakdale Chamber Director and finally, he was selected to the 1st Rotary Group Study Exchange Team. The team went to Japan for two months. He then joined the Oakdale Rotary Club. He took great pride in Rotary and had 55 years of perfect attendance, often making up Rotary in different towns when the family went on vacations.

Bob was an avid fan of the sports programs at Oakdale High School. He chaired the Oakdale Rotary Basketball Classic for over forty years. He helped start the Oakdale Quarterback club as well as the Dugout Club to help support Oakdale High School's football and baseball programs. Bob was a great historian of Oakdale who touched many lives in our community. He will be missed by many.

Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda (Gish) Meyer, son, Tim (Melissa) Meyer, daughter, Jessica Meyer, grandchildren, Ryan and Emily Meyer, and brother, Bill (Marilyn) Meyer.

Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 11 am to 2 pm at the Bianchi Community Center. 110 South Second Avenue Oakdale, California.

Remembrances may be made in Bob's name to: Oakdale Quarterback Club, PO Box 1565 Oakdale, CA 95361.

I never had the opportunity to meet Bob, but he was my 2nd cousin. I remember my father speaking of Bob's father.

Good man, solid Oakdale citizen.
Bought my first car from him at Haidlens. Continued to run across him in everyday life as I grew up. Another good one gone. My condolences Linda.

I always enjoyed talking to Bob when we encountered each other. I got to know him better when I transferred to Oakdale Rotary after retirement. Among his possessions, the family should find an old stock certificate from Marchetti Motors. Except for the name it had no value so I had it framed, donated it to Rotary with instructions to have him donate $50 for it. My father had purchased it in the 1920´s but never made any money from it. Although his uncle was a Marchetti, it was likely a different branch of the family; but he could enjoy it better than me. May Bob Rest in Peace.

Are you the Linda Gish I knew when we were both youth at the Empire Church of the Brethren? If so, I would be glad for you to email me at [email protected]. I appreciated reading about how involved Bob was in the Oakdale community. John David (J. D.) Glick
