JOHN McDONALD Obituary

JOHN EDWARD McDONALD
John Edward McDonald, age 93, a resident of Bullhead City, Arizona passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023. He was born on November 11, 1930 in Portland, Maine.
His family relocated to Aurora, Colorado when he was three. He was the fifth child of twelve born to Nora and Ernest McDonald.
When John graduated high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was a veteran of the Korean War and left the Air Force as a Tech Sergeant. After he arrived back home, he relocated to Southern California and worked his entire career for Western Gear Corporation.
He married his wife, Arleen, on October 20, 1990 and they celebrated their 33rd year of marriage in October of this year. Upon his retirement in 1994, he and Arleen relocated first to Seiad Valley, California, then in 2002 moved to their final home in Bullhead City, Arizona. When not traveling, the two of them volunteered for various charities and groups, including St. Vincent DePaul and Colorado River Food Bank, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and Chaparral Golf Course. John was a loyal member of the Elks Lodge and achieved the rank of Exhalted Ruler for the Alhambra-San Gabriel Lodge for the 1994-1995 year. John was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ernest and Nora; brothers, William, Charles, and Pat; and sisters, Kate and Joanne.
John is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Arleen: a total of six children, Nora (Bobby), Lee (Darien), Shawn (Patrick), and Mark (Allison), and stepsons, Mike (Mickey) and Paul (Christine); 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren; three sisters, Martha (96), Estelle (95), and Barbara (84); three brothers, Tom (87), Jerry (81), and Kenneth (78).
John was always willing to share an Irish tune or entertain with his Irish wit and will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at St. Mary Margaret Catholic Church, 1691 N. Oatman Rd, Bullhead City, AZ 86442, so as to allow family members from around the United States to make plans to attend.
