Samuel W. Jenkinson III

Samuel W Jenkinson Ill, a lifelong resident of Salinas passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on July 23, 2023, at the age of 71. Sam (known by most) was born on September 27, 1951, to Sam and Laurine Jenkinson in Salinas. Sam attended North Salinas High School where he met the love of his life Pam. They married in 1974 and recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on July 7th.In his early years Sam enjoyed summers at Coyote Lake boating and skiing. He always looked forward to his annual houseboat trips to Shasta Lake. Sam had a passion for traveling, if he, Pam and their dog Sadie weren't out enjoying travels in their RV you would find him at his home away from home at Nacimiento Lake floating on his pontoon boat. Sam worked at Farmers Mercantile, Salinas Drive-in Market as a partner/meat cutter then as an equipment operator at Jenkinson Construction until he retired. Sam had an all-time love for the California Rodeo where he spent 33 years on the Ground Crew Committee, his favorite event was the Freestyle Bullfights. He became a director for the rodeo in 2009 and received the coveted Golden Saddleman Award from his peers in 2021.Sam was a member of the Salinas Elks Lodge 614 and Native Sons of the Golden West. Sam was preceded in death by his parents Sam & Laurine Jenkinson and sister-in-law Julie Jenkinson. He is survived by his wife Pam, brother Jeffery, sons Samuel (Tara Pintar), Mathew (Jennifer) and Nicholas (Jenna Glore), grandchildren Hans, Hayden, Kolton & Kylee and many nieces, nephews and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Salinas Sports Complex on Wednesday, August 23rd at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Sam's name to the California Rodeo Association, 1034 North Main St, Salinas or your favorite charity.
