My personal favorite memory of David. Lake Shasta, house boat....late 1970's or mid 80's. We were eating dinner at the front of the boat, I spotted a small 12-18 inch rattle snake coiled up under the gang plank. Next thing I knew all us girls had picked up the food and moved it inside. Guess we thought the little guy was going to eat it??? Next thing I saw is your father, in all his glory... cowboy boots, swim trunks, red hair sticking up like every hair on his head hated the one standing next to it, gun drawn and stalking the poor little snake. This memory always puts a smile on my face Eric. Hope it makes you smile as you get thru the day sweetie. Love you all.

Gail, Chad, Eric, our heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family. We are proud to have known Dave these many years (I was one of his first coaches when he started at the Sheriff's Office so many years ago!). He was a good man and certainly proud of you all.

I met Dave 31 years ago when he solved the case and put away the man that murdered my sister. Dave was a hero to our family. I read what Jay Boutwell said about leaving no stone unturned and my family and I are so thankful for that kind of tenacity. Our prayers are with you, Gail and your family. Dave was a good man. It was a priveledge for my husband and I to know him. The time spent away from his family made a difference in many lives. May the God of all comfort give you peace and may His love surround you during this incredible loss in your lives.

I had the opportunity to work closely with David in the Investigation Division of the Marion County Sheriff's Office for a long length of time. I had no better partner to work with as not only could I depend on him as back up but he was also a great teacher. While working many complex investigations together I really learned the art of how to investigate a crime and then how to interview the suspect once you had identified one. I recall his method of interivews and how he made even the suspect feel like he was a long lost friend. It used to puzzle me and finally David explained it to me. His words were, "You can catch more flies with sugar that you can with vinegar" and that was his reasons. During my remaining years of police work, after David went to the Keizer Police Department, I found myself using his methods and because of his teachings I was able to solve many crimes. So I am thankful that I had the opportunity to learn from David. He was the most driven and the most digging cop I ever met . He used to tell me, You turned over every rock more that once until the answers are found. It would almost make you feel sorry for the crook. I'll always remember his teaching, "leave no stone unturned, turn them over and over again and again and you will find the answers you need." That was David, "a never give up attitude."
We had many private talks about police work and a cop's life. I always knew David was devoted to law enforcement and he talked continually about it but when he talked about family life, you knew without any doubt about where his real love was, and that belonged to his wife and family. Although I never met , Eric and Chad, and if I did the were both young, I'll tell you that he talked many times about them. Telling me how proud they made him and saying that they were good boys and wished he could spend more time with them doing "Dad things". He always talked highly of you Gail and how fortunate he was to have you for a wife. He left no doubt in anyone's mind that he loved you un-conditionally and was totally devoted to you. He talked many time about how the job took away time that he wished he could spend with you but always let it be known that he loved you for understanding as well.
I could go on and on about my memories of David but I must go.
David I will not say "good bye" to you but instead just "so long", May you rest in peace as you have more that satisfied your work in this life. Thank You for all the good times, memories and the honor of working with and knowing you. I shall not forget you.
My Thoughts and Prayers to all the Kominek Family.
