Juanita Nance Obituary

Juanita Nance LOVE VALLEY Mrs. Juanita Harwell Nance, 85, of McCarran Trail, died Monday, May 16, 2011, at the Gardens of Statesville. She was born in Iredell County where she spent her entire life. She was born May 10, 1926, the daughter of the late Thomas Oren and Rachel Ervin Harwell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by two brothers, Ervin and Ralph Harwell, and two sisters, Lucille Morrison and Dorothy Bultman. The love of her life was her husband, Harry Samuel Nance, who reached heaven in 2004 and was waiting on his beloved Juanita to join him. Juanita retired from Davis Hospital after 30 years of service and truly enjoyed her work. Her love after retirement was farming and gardening with Harry, and working in her beautiful flowers. Many people in Iredell have enjoyed and tasted one of her wonderful pound cakes. After retirement, Juanita and Harry retired to the little town of Love Valley where they enjoyed sitting on their porch and holding hands. Juanita is survived by three sons, Harry "Sonny" Nance and his wife, Judy, of Mooresville; Dean Nance and his wife, Dawn, of Troutman, and Charlie Nance and his wife, Beth, of Love Valley. Her family included 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren that she loved so. Her survivors also include her niece, Margaret Morrison, of Virginia; nephews, Gordon Harwell, of Washington D.C., and Forrest Carpenter, of Texas. Juanita was loved and cared for by many people, and her practical nature, her wit and wisdom was endearing to them all. The family would like to extend their love and sincerest thank you to the wonderful staff at the Gardens of Statesville who loved her like family and Hospice and Palliative CareCenter of Iredell that provided care as well. Her love for God, her family, and other people is what carried her through her journey in life to death and her passage into heaven to be home with Harry and her Heavenly Father. A chapel service will be held at Troutman Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, and burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Park. No formal visitation will be held, but friends and family are welcome to pay their respects at Troutman Funeral Home. Rev. Clyde Cook and Ronnie Black will attend to the service, and her friends, Barbara and Benny Benfield will play the music she loved. Memorials may be made to Love Valley Presbyterian Church, 239 Mitchell Trail, Love Valley, NC 28625 and Hospice and Palliative CareCenter of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Troutman Funeral Home is serving the family of Juanita Nance and the Nance family would like to express their appreciation for their caring service. Juanita comes to my mind often as we became good friends working together at Davis. Can not believe she has been gone 14 years. I will join her sooner than later. Jonell Lewis

Surely it has not been 10 years since Juanita and I took a tour cross country and wound up at Sonic for a great milkshake, with giggles and laughs all along the way.
Do miss you EVER SO MUCH.

Jaunita was a wonderful influence in my life as a coworker at the Old Davis Hospital. We have kept in touch the last 40 plus years. Her love for Harry and all of her family and friends was steadfast and unconditional. This last year we talked about our Lord often, and her desire to see her Lord and her beloved Harry! Thanks be to God for His Blessed Hope! We will meet again! Love and Sympathy, Gwen Coley

I have such fond memories of Juanita and how she helped me as I started my career as a nurse practitioner at Davis Hospital in the early 1980's. Over the years her support and knowledge proved very valuable to me. My sincere condolences go to the entire family. God bless you, Sharon Setzer
