Sasha and I grew up together & I can't imagine the hole that this has left in her life & the life of her children. She loved her Dad & he loved her. My favorite memory of Steve, was at Sasha's wedding. I saw the love & the pride he felt for her that day. He loved his family especially his grandbabies & he will be missed immensely. My prayers to all.

I do not know where to begin. Steve and I grew up together and we had some fun times in his first car, an orange 58 Chevrolet Bel Aire 348 4 speed and my 57 Ford. We rode all over Burke County burning rubber. I remember the time that Steve, Ben Bradshaw and I took his dad's 47 Chevy convertible on High Peak road and we ran it off the road and almost turned over. I will never forget the time he called me saying he was a state trooper and had me scared to death. He always had my back and I had his. He has been a lifelong friend. I sure will miss him.

Sweet Sasha and family,
I am so, so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. I will always remember him pulling up in your yard on his motor cycle (usually when the kids were napping and you had the STOP on the front door); watching him ride Carter on the tractor; him and Larry shooting the breeze on our porch; but I think the best was when he got Freebird to climb the tree in the front yard and he said, "I want to see if he bounces." Ha ha ha. Then there was the day I cut my motorcycle a bit short cutting in to our yard but went into your yard and drove right through your new gravel walk way, throwing gravel every where. I hurried to get it all raked back into place before Justin got home. I no sooner got straight and back into my yard when Steve rode in from the other direction and did exactly the same thing and pretty much saying the same thing I did!
I send you all lots of big hugs and love you,
Belle

I cannot begin to imagine what my teenage years would have been with out this man's involvement. From learning appreciation for music that I had never heard before Def Leppard Bob Seger and others down to being stuck in mud holes in a dune buggy at the river. He was such an exciting full of life person and one heck of a truck driver. You see I spent so many weekends at his house with my life's long best friend, one of his daughters shannon which he called Bertha. He was a strict dad but fun to hangout with. He was unpredictable a lot of times but always providing adventure. He will missed by so many and loved by me for the rest of my days. I hope heaven has a "do rag" with your name on it.

How very sad to lose a longtime friend. Steve and I graduated together from VHS. Although I haven't seen Steve in a very long time, I treasure the memories from days gone by. To his family and friends, I am so very sorry for your loss. (Valdese High School Class of 1965)

I love how Steve had a nickname for everyone, mine was " Bread" or "Bread woman". His love for the open road and adventure was apparent. His love for his family was even more apparent. He was rough and tough, but you knew he cared. We will all miss his larger than life self, smile and laugh. Many blessings to the family.

Steve drove me to my chemo treatments back in the summer of 2008. Once, we even went on his motorcycle! The nurses weren't too happy about that! He will be missed!
