Eleanor J. Vinczi (nee Dye), 84, of Lorain, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2021 at home, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born August 16, 1936 in Martin’s Ferry, Ohio and grew up in Painesville, Ohio.Ellie graduated from Riverside Highschool in 1954 and earned a Bachelor of Science in education from Kent State University in 1959. Since teachers were in high demand during the 1950s, Ellie left Kent State after two years of study to teach first grade in Madison-on-the-Lake (’56-’58). She then returned to Kent to finish her degree and resumed teaching in her hometown of Painesville. In 1959 she married Béla Vinczi. They built a loving and devoted life together beginning in Painesville, relocating to Lorain in 1963. With the move, Ellie focused on being an excellent wife and mother. Once her three children were in school, she pursued graduate studies, becoming a Reading Specialist. She taught and tutored in Lorain City Schools, St. John Catholic school, and Lorain County Community College.A born teacher and strong reading advocate, Ellie loved books and to give books to blossoming young readers to foster a growing love of reading. She thoroughly invested in her students and did all she could to help them succeed. Up until her death she had prior students writing and calling her. Ellie was a true friend and mentor.She embraced life and showed a loving and generous heart to all. Ellie was often referred to as the “Queen of Thoughtfulness” by her family, never forgetting to acknowledge someone’s special day, even when she was hospitalized.Ellie truly loved every moment she could spend with family and friends, easily creating an atmosphere of genuine warmth and caring toward others. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 61 years, Béla; children Bruce Vinczi, Ellen (Jack) Lerchbacker, and Stephen (Kim) Vinczi; grandchildren Abbie, Asa (Martha), Andrea, and Stephen Vinczi II, and John (Sydney) and Joseph Lerchbacker; and five beautiful great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Art (Laurie) Dye, several brothers- and sisters-in-law, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their spouses and children.In addition to reading, playing games, and visiting with others, Ellie and Béla enjoyed traveling extensively with their family and as a couple. They visited 48 states, including Alaska and Hawaii, and enjoyed a family trip to Hungary. In retirement they especially liked wintering in Florida, going to concerts, dances, dinners, and activities at the clubhouse, until health concerns kept them up North near family.Ellie had been active at Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church through the 1970s (Lorain), Grow Point Church (Amherst), and Englewood United Methodist Church (Florida) volunteering in various capacities. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and an active member of organizations like PTA, AAUW, DAR, Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority, AAUW Investment Club, Bible Study groups, Ohio Education Association, GM Sun Seekers, and Lorain Retired Education Association. She preferred the role of treasurer, but also served as membership coordinator and on “Sunshine” committees.She was preceded in death by her parents, Ardeth and Margaret (nee Sabo) Dye, and brother, Ira C. Dye.In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to a
charity of your choice in Eleanor’s memory, as she supported many.A Celebration of Life Service is being planned for the summer.
