John Scott Obituary

John Scott Sr., long time resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, passed away Tuesday May 12, 2015 of natural causes. With his passing we lost our best friend, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and all around good guy. John was a friend to everyone, not only his neighbors and acquaintances, but everyone. He never met a stranger, and was always there to help anyone in need. John doted on his wife of 54 years, Patsy, and his 3 grandchildren; Sarah, JD, and Sam. He spent much of his time traveling with Patsy to support his grandkids at baseball and soccer games, and dance performances. John enjoyed socializing at "the lake" with his friends and family, especially when it came to playing cards or dominoes. John was a self-taught cook and baker, and enjoyed making cakes to share with family, friends, and local charities.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy, of the home; one son, John Sherman Scott, Jr. and wife Linda, Hamilton, Ohio; two daughters, Shelly Scott, Fort Scott, and Carol DeNeff, Olathe, Kansas; one sister, Judy Peterson and husband Richard, Nixa, Missouri; three grandchildren, Samuel Henry Scott, John David DeNeff and Sarah DeNeff; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Rev. Kevin Moyers and Pastor Tim Woodring will conduct funeral services at 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 19th at the Community Christian Church. Following funeral services, there will be cremation and burial will take place at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Lake Fort Scott Siren Fund and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, PO Box 347, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kansas 66701. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.

To Carol, Sarah and JD: our heartfelt condolences go out to all of you and your extended family. We loved "Papa John" -- his kindness and giving spirit was a great testimony to this troubled world. The tremendous positive impact he had on many lives (ours included) will never be forgotten.
