CHESTERVILLE - Florence Elaine (Kunze) Lyman, age 100 of Chesterville, passed away on January 28, 2025, peacefully at Bennington Glen Nursing Center.
Florence was born on January 1, 1925, at home, and grew up in Pulaskiville, Ohio to Forrest and Lois (Linn) Kunze. She graduated president of her class from Chesterville High School in 1942 and later graduated from Bliss Business College. She worked for Ohio Bell Telephone Company for approximately 23 years. Florence was a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a non-profit organization of volunteers who work to improve their communities. Later, she worked for many years as the secretary for Chesterville-Harmony United Methodist Churches.
January 21, 1968, Florence married Richard "Dick" Lyman, and moved back to the Mount Gilead area where, for 50 years, they shared a life of partnership and love. The two enjoyed traveling around this great country and would share their journeys with the family through pictures.
Florence and Dick cherished time spent with family and enjoyed supporting nieces and nephews by attending their music and sporting events. Florence was a member of the Harmony United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's group, where she was the president and on other committees. Additionally, she was the secretary of the Silver King Club out of Plymouth, Ohio, supporting her husband's passion. She enjoyed bowling with the ladies in the community until she was 96 years old.
Florence is survived by her brother, Carroll Kunze, and many nieces and nephews who will miss their beloved "Aunt Torency."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Lyman; sisters, Alice (Wayne) Fowls, and Patricia (Dale) Lyman; and sister-in-law, Norma Kunze.
Florence's family will greet friends from 9:30 -11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead, 67 N Main Street. Services to celebrate her life will begin there at 11 AM with Pastor Michael Law officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville. To the Family of Florence Lyman, you have my deepest Sympathy and Condolences. I am sure that Dick is ready to greet Florence, along with the many friends of theirs. She was one of the kindest ladies that I met when I would take my mother Helen Miesse to church when she was able.
