MOUNT GILEAD - James Richard McFarland, age 79 of Mount Gilead, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
He was born on November 8, 1945, to David Ralph and Beatrice Elaine (Clark) McFarland in Mount Vernon, Ohio. He graduated from Highland High School. On January 26, 1968, he married his wife, SaraJane (Burns) McFarland in Smithville Flats. They met while he was working as a roughneck in the oil fields, and she was a punch press operator. In SaraJane's words, "there was nothing better to do on a Saturday night, so we got married." They lived a wonderful life together, raising their two children. They shared almost 40 years together before her passing in 2008.
James, or "Jimbo" when he did CB Radio, was a man of many talents. He was an excellent fisherman, electrician, carpenter, builder, mechanic, and family man. He was a good man who took care of his family, fixing things when they needed done, or keeping you on your toes with one of his crazy stories. He enjoyed shooting his guns and playing games on the computer.
Left to cherish James' memory are his children, Steven (Samantha) McFarland and Tina McFarland; grandchildren: Justin and Chris Kempton, and Andrew McFarland; siblings: Dwight (Carol) McFarland, Ethel Reynolds, Judith Phillips, Carl (Maxine) McFarland, and sister-in-law Patricia; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, SaraJane McFarland; parents, David and Beatrice McFarland; and siblings: Ralph "Eddie" McFarland, Edith (Larry) Davis, Alice McFarland, Jerry McFarland, Andrew (Pat) McFarland, Sandra Ruhl, Barbara McFarland, Luella McFarland, Willian McFarland, and Elaine Carson.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11 AM and Rivercliff Cemetery.
