Ada Smith Obituary

Ada Mae Smith, 100, died Tuesday afternoon, July 18, 2017 in Fort Worth. We rejoice in her life, and steadfast faith in Jesus Christ our Lord. The celebration of her life will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2017 at St. Francis Village Protestant Fellowship, 281 St. Clare, Crowley, Texas. Ada Mae Barton was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma, and grew up in Dallas, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. She was married to Chandler Smith for almost 64 years and had four children. She was active in many organizations throughout her adulthood: church (WMU, The Silent Friends Ministry at First Baptist Midland), Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), PTA, etc. She worked at Sears before her marriage and First Baptist Midland as the records secretary after all the children had left the nest. Ada Mae loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was proud of them all. She loved for the family to get together. The family moved to Midland in 1967 and she lived there for 40 years. After retirement, she was active in activities at church, played bridge and 42 with friends, enjoyed the symphony and community theater and traveled with Chandler throughout the world. She participated in deep water aerobics for 19 years until she was 90 years old. She moved to Fort Worth in 2007 to live closer to her family. Ada Mae was a dynamic woman who loved well and whose relationship with Jesus Christ and the Bible directed her life. Even during times of great loss and sadness she looked to God's Word for comfort and direction and shared that comfort with others. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 64 years, Chandler Smith; brother, W.O. Barton, Jr.; son, Lewis Chandler "Scotty" Smith, Jr.; daughter, Cynthia Smith Wiegand; and grandson, John David Wiegand. Survivors include daughters, Joanne Smith McClendon and husband Robert and Pam Smith Spore and husband Michael, of Fort Worth and Crowley respectively; granddaughters, Alice McClendon Carter and husband Jon of Fort Worth; Jennifer Wiegand Loupe and husband Brent of Prairieville, Louisiana; Cameron Smith Bradley of Washington, North Carolina; Stacey Smith of Orlando, Florida; five great-grandchildren: Douglas Carter, Sydney Loupe, Sarah Elizabeth Carter, Chandler David Loupe and Chandler Scott Bradley. The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to: Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607.

Ada Mae was a blessing both as a GA leader and as my friend's mother. She always made me feel like a part of her family. Her legacy is far reaching. Well done, good and faithful servant.
