Calvin Hoover Obituary

Calvin W. Hoover Calvin W. Hoover, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Calvin was born May 10, 1925 in Blanket, Texas, the only child of Etha Starling and Dave Edward Hoover. He went to school at Desdemona, Texas where his parents were teachers. They moved to Lea County New Mexico in 1934 when his Dad began work for Humble Oil Company. He went to school at Jal and Eunice, New Mexico. His senior year they were transferred to Midland, Texas where he graduated in 1943. Calvin went to Texas Tech and graduated in 1947 with a BBA in Industrial Management. He went to work for Humble Oil Company/Exxon in the accounting department. He worked in McCamey a short while and was transferred to Wink where he worked 8 years. Then he moved to Florey Camp near Andrews for a year before moving to Denver City. Calvin met Betty Maples in Denver City and on May 31, 1958 they were married there. They have celebrated 51 wonderful years together. They were sent to Andrews for 8 years where Laura Ann was born in 1962 and David Andrew were born in 1965. They were transferred to Midland in 1966 where they have lived ever since. He retired from Exxon in 1986 after 39 years and worked contract for oil companies including Apache Corp. and retired again in 1997. He appreciated his doctors. They were his good friend Dr. Richard Klempnauer, Dr. Shelton Viney, Dr. P. K. Patel, Dr. Shylesh Ganta, Dr. David Watkins, Dr. James Corwin, Dr. James Barnett., Dr. M Patel, and Dr. David Power. Encompass Health Care was a caring place with Lois Akerstrom, Dennis Dalrymple, Mark Pettit, and Art Cadena and many others. He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, his wonderful Keystone Sunday School Class, Prime Timers, Exxon Annuitants Club and the Permian Basin Petroleum Pioneers who he helped celebrate their 50th anniversary last Friday. You have to work in the Permian Basin in the oil industry for 30 years to be a member. Calvin enjoyed crossword puzzle books and reading. He had many good stories to tell and never met a stranger and loved to talk to people Calvin is survived by his wife Betty, his daughter Laura from Midland, his son David and wife Jennifer and his wonderful grandson Joshua Andrew, 11 months old from Spring, Texas all of whom he loved dearly. He was also survived by his Aunt Billye Jones from Stephenville, Texas who was like a sister to him, and many dear cousins. His parents preceded him in death. The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home Sunday, September 24 between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 28, 2009 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church at 3011 W. Kansas St., Midland, Texas with Rev. Larry Bailey and Rev. Kathryn Boren officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Bobby Trent, Billy Trent, Mike Smith, Harold White, John Moreland, and Bob Lynch. The Keystone class will be honorary pallbearers. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered at www.ellisfunerals.com. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, or charity of one's choice.
