Richard Schott Obituary

"to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8, NASB). Richard "Dick" George Schott was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 6, 2023. Born on August 22, 1927 in Sioux City, IA, Dick was greeted into this world by his loving parents, Julia and John Schott. Dick lived his life showing Christ's love to everyone he came into contact with. He served his country with pride as a marine during WWII and met the love of his life, Margaret "Tink" Tooey, in Sioux City. The two fell madly in love and were married on August 21, 1948 a day before his 21st birthday. Dick attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and majored in business, and the couple welcomed their first child, Sandy, during his years at university. After graduation, they moved to Mitchell, South Dakota, where they resided for 22 years and welcomed five more children to their family. Those years were filled with love, laughter, and fun summer memories. After experiencing a few too many northern winters, they decided to head south for the warmth and made their final stop in Odessa in 1977. Dick was the Manager at the Model Shop in Odessa for several years and ultimately pursued one of his many passions and talents with tailoring. He owned his tailor-made suit business for decades, serving various clients throughout West Texas. Dick and Tink found their church home at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and faithfully attended there throughout their time in Odessa. Apart from his notoriety from his incredibly made suits, quick wit, and easygoing nature, Dick was known throughout the community for his selfless, Christ like love of his wife throughout her illnesses and declining health, and he patiently cared for her until her passing in 2008. Dick was happiest when he was on a golf course. He had a love of the sport that could only be topped by his love for his family and for his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a strong example of a loving husband, father, and grandfather to all he encountered, but especially to his family. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Sandy and Ed Jacobson, of Pierre, South Dakota; his son, Richard Schott, Jr., of Odessa, Texas; his son and his wife, Tom and Debbie Schott, of Pinehurst, North Carolina; his daughter and her husband, Mary and Mark Goodman, of Marysville, Ohio; his daughter and her husband, Connie and Mike Perrin, of Midland, Texas; his daughter and her husband, Andrea and Scott Spradley, of Odessa, Texas; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Hunter's Hope Ministry, c/o Midland Bible Church, or you can visit huntershopeministry.com. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 10th at 2:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland to celebrate Dick's life. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.

Although I didn´t know Mr. Schott well, during the times we visited it was apparent what a kind gentleman he was. When my wife and I would visit my mother in Odessa, we would go to church with her. We sat next to Mr. and Mrs. Schott numerous times, and after Mrs. Schott´s passing, sat along side Mr. Schott. Always a class act and a kind man. The last time we saw him was at my mother´s funeral. My condolences to his family.
