Suzanne Sutherland

1938 - 2022

Sutherland Suzanne (Sue) Sutherland passed away with her children by her side on December 15, 2022 at Columbus Oaks Nursing Home in Columbus, Texas after a long battle with chronic illnesses and post Covid 19 complications. Sue (Lee) was born in 1938 in Missouri where she met her future husband, Jim, and graduated high school. Sue and Jim Sutherland were married in 1958. Soon after Jim graduated with his Petroleum Engineering degree, they moved to Texas with their daughter Kim. A few years later they had 2 more children, Jim and Connie, and then moved to Midland, Texas where they raised their children, lived most of their lives, and were faithful and long-time members of Grace Lutheran Church. Sue moved to Katy, Texas to be closer to her children after Jim passed away in 2007. She also lived for a time at Kruse Village in Brenham, Texas where she enjoyed the assisted living activities, shopping, going out to eat with her family, getting her hair done at the beauty shop with Lacy, and visiting her children at "the ranch" and in Bryan/College Station. It was in Brenham where she began receiving special senior services and communion from Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg, Texas, and continued to enjoy these special services such as "the plate parade", communion, and special gift baskets after moving to Columbus Oaks in Columbus, Texas in June 2022. In Sue's younger years, she loved to paint both in oil and watercolors, sew, bake, and embroidery. In her later years, she loved to listen to country music on the radio, shop, and watch old movies and Charles Stanley church services on TV. Sue is preceded in death by her husband Jim Sutherland, father Lloyd Lee, mother Margaret (Lee) Ochs, stepfather Martin C. Ochs, brother Lloyd S. (Buddy) Lee, and her grandmother Isabelle Hunt who helped Sue's mother raise her after her father passed away. Sue is survived by her children Kim (Drew) Lynch and their children Austin Lynch and Caroline Lynch, Jim (Joyce) Sutherland and their children Ashlee Ehrhart, Jacob (Hannah) Sutherland and Matthew (Andrea) Sutherland, Connie Sutherland and her great grandchildren Hadassah, Elijah, and Jack James Sutherland. Graveside services for Sue will be held January 6, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Resthaven (Dignity) Cemetery in Midland, Texas. Thank you to Columbus Oaks Nursing Home and Dr. Bart Klaus for their tireless and loving care and attention for our mother Sue, Henneke Funeral Home for their professionalism and kindness, and to Trinity Lutheran Church and Pastor Ivy for her prompt arrival to bless and pray for our mother so she could finally come to rest and return to our Lord and Savior Jesus where she is free from pain and singing her favorite hymns with the angels.
