Mrs. Carol Sue Hooker Joyce, age 58, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, December 14, 2018, at her home. Mrs. Joyce was born in Surry County on January 31, 1960. She was a teacher's assistant at B.H. Tharrington School for more than 30 years, where she was known not only for her exceptional work ethic but also for her kindness to children and staff alike. Carol was a faithful member of Ararat Friends Meeting. She will be sorely missed by all her family and many friends. Among the many who will always cherish her sweet memory is her husband, Stanley Joyce; a daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Joe Ferguson; a son, Jake Joyce and Colleen Thomas; her parents, Carlos and Marie Goins Hooker; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debi and Mitch Nelson, Lynn and Rick Garland, and Glenda and Tim Palmer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Angela Hooker, Danny and Jennifer Hooker; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Dot Joyce; brothers-in-law, Steve Joyce and wife Mary and Ronnie Joyce; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home and funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Monday with Rev. Dennis Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Ararat Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials to Ararat Friends Meeting at 232 Brewster Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
