Joshua Dell Hill, age 39, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, at Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy. Joshua was born on Jan. 4, 1985, in Stuart, VA to Linda Mize and Rick Hill. He loved sports, especially basketball, and the Duke Blue Devils. He also loved wrestling and made many friends in the AIWF series. He was of Baptist faith and a member of Tory Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Joshua was injured in a car accident in November 2001 in his sophomore year at Patrick County High School. He received an honorary diploma with his class in 2003. Joshua was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry Mize, Carl and Faye Hill, and George and Opal Patterson. Joshua is survived by his mother, Linda Mize of Mount Airy; his father, Rick Hill (Lisa), of Vesta, VA; his brother, Daniel Hill (Samantha); maternal grandmother, Helen Mize; and nieces, Zoe and Alivia. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Beverly and James Gordon and family, aunt and uncle, Amy and Michael Wood and family; aunt Phyllis Barbour - Patterson and family; uncle, James Nester and family, aunt and uncle, Marie and David Patterson and family, uncle, Julius Patterson and family, and aunt, Karen Mills. Josh was also preceded in death by a special uncle, Sam Mills who shared his Atlanta trips and many other adventures. Joshua was known for his sweet smile and humor. He was an inspiration for those who knew and loved him, especially after his accident. Family night will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 5:00 -7:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, VA. A celebration of Josh's life and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 2:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, VA with Pastor Rick Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Plasters Family Cemetery in Vesta, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to PARC Workshop, 674 Wood Brothers Drive, Stuart, VA 24171. We met Josh and Rick at the Winston-Salem Dash baseball games several years ago. They were a joy to be around, and we enjoyed getting to know them. Josh was a brave young man and had a family and many friends who loved him very much. He is healed now! We send our love and deepest sympathy.
