Don Bruinsma Obituary

Donald Albert Bruinsma passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 4, 2025. Don was born on March 26, 1959, to Pete and Tillie Bruinsma in Bellflower, California. In 1969 his family moved to Washington. On March 11, 1988, he married Trena Vander Veen. Where they dairy farmed and raised their daughter in Everson until 2005. He then went to work as a truck driver for Miles Sand and Gravel. If you didn't find him at work, you would find him on the golf course with a huge smile on his face and laughing with his friends. Don is survived by his loving wife, Trena, daughter Katie, sister Debbie (Kevin) Donovan, Tena (Steve) Storgaard, brother Pete (Michelle) Bruinsma, sisters in-law Grace (Ed) Timmer and Bev Vander Veen, brothers in-law Charlie (Brenda) Vander Veen and Ben (Chris) Vander Veen, sister-in-law Jennie Ann (Dennis) Haveman as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Don is proceeded in death by his parents Pete and Tillie Bruinsma, sister MaryAnn Spoelstra, nephews Luke and Matthew Spoelstra, in-laws Hans and Wilma Vander Veen, brothers-in-law, Jim Vander Veen and Hans Vander Veen. In honor of Don, a graveside committal will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 11 at Sumas Cemetery followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at Second Christian Reformed Church, Lynden. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Don, please visit our floral store.
