Henrietta Decker

Henrietta Decker, 88, of Iselin died on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Veterans Memorial Home of Menlo Park in Edison. She was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School in 1945. Henrietta was employed by Bell System, AT&T, and Lucent before retiring.

Born in Perth Amboy to the late Boleslaw and Mary Konkowski, she moved to Iselin in 1963. She became a Communicant and Eucharistic Minister at St. Cecilia Church in 1963 and would bring the Eucharist to people at the Veterans Memorial Home of Menlo Park until the illness of her late husband, which led her to a new vocation. She also belonged to various societies at the Church. She loved caring for her grandchildren. She took up snow-skiing in her 50's and continued it through her 70's, enjoying the slopes of both New Jersey and Aspen, Colorado with her late husband Alvin, son Brian and his wife Julie, and grandchildren, Justin and Jordan.

Henrietta was predeceased by her husband Alvin Decker (2004); a son Brian Anderson (2015); a grandson Alvin Decker (2014); 3 brothers Anton, Henry, and William Konkowski; and 3 sisters Antoinette Rodzinka, Rae Staroziak, and Adele Shamy.

Surviving are her 2 sons, Thomas Anderson of Englishtown, and Alvin Decker & his companion Tracy Manness of Perth Amboy; 4 grandchildren, Alicia, Justin, Jordan, and Lucas; her daughter-in-law Julie Anderson; 2 sisters Irene O'Hara and Eleanor Bonk; and a brother Leonard Konkowski.

Services will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 10:30 AM from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home 1225 Green St. (corner of Cooper Ave.) Iselin, followed by a 11AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Cecilia Church, Iselin.
