AGE: 56 • Raritan
Marky Mattoe, 56, lifelong resident of Raritan, passed away quietly at his home on Saturday, April 2, 2016.
Born in Somerville, Mark was a self-taught musician who will be most remembered for his amazing natural drumming ability. He played with many bands in New Jersey and developed lasting relationships with his band members.
Mark was the son of the late Elsie and Charles Mattoe. He is survived by his devoted sister, Charlene (Ron) Remillard of Argyle, NY; loving nephew, Jesse Kryscio of East Stroudsburg, PA; adoring nieces, Viktoria (Herb) Tennison of Chicago, IL; Katie (Adam) Stuckey, and grandniece, Lily Ana Stuckey of Saylorsburg, PA; loyal friend, Michele Torlish of Raritan and several generations of cousins.
Marky had many friends and admirers who loved him for his gentle heart, kind smile, his quirky sense of humor, his love of life and impassioned music talent. Mark's summer home at Cossayuna Lake, NY, was and will be his ultimate resting place. He loved jitterbug bass fishing, swimming, soaking in the sun, gardening and cooking. He spent many summers at the lake caring for his mother where they enjoyed each other's company as well as the many neighbors they knew.
A memorial service will be held at the Bongiovi Funeral Home, 416 Bell Avenue, Raritan, NJ 08869, (908-725-1887) on Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 2-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to "Dream to Drum," a scholarship in Mark's honor for aspiring drummers at the Raritan Music Center, 55 West Somerset St., Raritan, NJ 08869 in care of Brandon and Taylor Parenti.

A good friend to so many.
Markey treated everyone with kindness never judged. His back door was always open as was his heart.

Marky ~ I never got to know you that well, but what I do know is that you were one very special unique individual who touched the lives and hearts of so many, not only with your great musical talent, but especially with your warm and engaging personality. While you most certainly will be missed here, I'm sure that now you're doing what you always loved doing . . . looking after your Mom!

I moved away from Raritan many, many years a go but Marky was one of the few people I kept in touch with. He was always generous, funny and kind. We spoke by phone just a month a go and he had me laughing. He was truly a character with a unique way of looking at the world. I'm very glad I got to know him.

Marky you was and will always be remembered as a great guy. Sadly missed an always remembered. Our father took you home early with purpose in sure. It's your time to be at peace and play for him now. My condolences to your family for their loss. And prayers to them thru their time of loss.

Marky I will miss you so much. Still have the gift you gave me when Alan and I moved away to N.C. I will miss our greeting to each other, "Oh My!" from no matter how far way down the block. You had a beautiful garden and a happy and sweet personality always. We will miss you, our neighbor and friend. Tracey and Alan (Capt.) Curtis.
