May 14, 2011

Marty,

It has been 4 months since GOD took you from us. Why he would take such a wonderful and loving daddy and the most dedicated husband a wife could ever want, and someone I am proud to call my friend is beyond my belief.

We had a great visit last week. Not only do I miss you but all of your family and friends do too. Two years ago when I needed a friend you were the first one to call. I so wish that you were here my friend but I look at your picture every day and know you are (we have some great talks).

I so wish you were still here. I would have traded places with you in a heartbeat for your wonderful family misses you so much. They say time will heal but I don't know about that I think you just learn to live with it. My mom will be gone 29 years this month and believe me you just deal with it.

Marty, I know god needed a "HERO" to help him and he couldn't have chosen a better one. It is our lose but his gain. Just look at the people who continue to write to you. You are one of the greatest guys I have ever had the privilege to work with, to know, and to be honored to call "MY FRIEND".

Just know I will always keep my promise to you.

I will continue to visit you. Until we meet again, RIP MY BROTHER, MY PARTNER, and MY FRIEND!

What an amazing man Martin Cuddy was & still continues to be in our hearts & memories. I was thankful to be w/ him during his final week. My heart breaks every time I think about what his family is going through. You couldn’t ask for a better family & support system. Just hearing everyone talk about him & what he’s done so humbly for everyone he’s ever encountered is astounding. I am so proud to have known him. He truly is an amazing ‘Officer, Teacher, Leader & Hero’!

To the entire Cuddy family, I love you all & will continue to be here for you always.

Martin, thank you for making everyday that I spent with you amazing. We were a team that was hard to compare. A duo that always left a lasting impression.
We worked hard in everything we did, and laughed even harder most of the time. Your being was truly inspirational to all and when you spoke people listened, learned and strived to better themselves. Hearts are saddened and empty for now, but the amazing stories of courage, accomplishment and strength and of course your sense of humor makes you live on in our hearts and minds forever. Today we go to say goodbye a final time, and to you my true brother I say, thank you, go in peace and never forget because I know I never will.

God looked around his garden and he found an empty place,
He then looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
God's Garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering, He knew that you were in pain.
He knew that you would never get well on earth again.
He saw that the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb,
So he closed your weary eyelids and whispered
"PEACE BE THINE".
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone,
For parts of us went with you the day God called you home.

My deepest sympathy to the Cuddy family. Marty your presence and strength will always shine upon us and you will never be forgotten. It has been an honor, Thank you brother.

January 8, 2011

Today I say good bye to my friend. Although it could never be good bye, he will forever rest heavy on my heart and mind.

I have known Martin for over 18 years. Words such as character, honor, humility, pride and perseverence are not just words rather symbols that will forever remind me of Martin.

Iam deeply saddened and find myself inadequate to equally convey such words of sorrow to both families. Martin gave to so many people and touched so many hearts and lives.

My children have grown up around Martin. My family laughed with him and later cried for him, they loved him; they too will not forget him and nor will I.

Love you brother,

I met Martin on a warm sunny Sept. day in 1967. We were both waiting to go into St Ladislaus School Kindergarten in New Brunswick, NJ. He seemed a bit troubled about starting school that day, so I consoled him. Thruout our Kindergarten school year, we were good friends and every now and then, the teacher would seat us side by side since we got along so well. We both attended that school thru grade 8 so we spent 9 school years together. Once we left that school, I rarely saw him. He was a great friend and I am truly saddened to hear about his passing this early in life. My family wishes Martin's family our most sincere condolences at this most difficult time. May God keep you in his vision as he welcomes Martin home.

R.I.P. Martin. Even though you leave this life for a better place, a part of you will remain behind. A piece of you will remain inside of the hearts of every officer you trained and worked with throughout the years. For knowing you, and working with you, we are all better officers. You defined what a Correction Officer should be and you made your family proud. Watch over us and know that we will do our best to watch over your family in their time of need. You will be missed by many but forgotten by no one.

To my PARTNER:

Marty I will never forget the good times, tough times and long hours we shared for many years. You where the best partner a guy could have.

I will never forget what you did for me when I was at the lowest point in my life. You proved to me that you where not only my partner but TRULY MY FRIEND. I will always remember the phone calls to check on me even when you where so sick yourself. I made a promise to you and I will keep it. Partner you fought a tough fight and never gave up. You would never let anyone know how you where hurting. I pray that God will be good to you and give you the peace you deserve. Your suffering is now over but we all know that God called you because he needed a HERO and he picked the best one that is you.

To Deb,

You are truly an amazng woman. Marty loved you so much and he knows you loved him too. I told Marty I will be there to help you and the girls and no matter what I will be there for you. As I told you, you only know who your friends are when the chips are down. As you have seen Marty has alot of true friends and WE WILL BE THERE FOR YOU.

To Angelica & Ariel,

I know you are hurting right now. Just know that your father loved both of you more than anything. Although life seems so unfair just know that your dad will always be with you and watching over you. I know I am not your dad but just know I will always be there for you if you need anything.
