I wrote a brief commentary regarding young William's passing, as soon as his Obituary was posted. In that statement, I referenced a simple City Hall (Flora, IL) Staff meeting I was attending, when Bill's death was reported at the national level. So odd for those of us in that meeting, referencing Bill as if he were our own son or close friend. I'm still at this City Hall and I still think of Bill and his family, every time I enter that room. We never knew him personally, but yet we miss him. DAN SULSBERGER

Bob, Mary, Carrie, Kelsey, and Mattie--Our families first connected when Jeff and Billy were in the MEFC nursery together. From those earliest days, I remember Billy's sweet disposition. In the 22 years that followed, every time I saw Billy he had a smile on his face, always kind, polite, goodnatured. Just before we moved to NC, he came over to the house with Jeff. Billy's signature smile spread across his face as he gave me a big hug. I will cherish that moment. I'm so thankful that Billy was Jeff's friend. I'm sure he was one of the best friends Jeff will ever have. We will continue to pray for all of you that God will give you the peace that passes all understanding and comfort you as only He can.

To the McCaw Family - While I didn't know Billy, my son attended Rutgers, knew Billy and is friends with many of Billy's closest friends. Upon hearing of this tragedy, I came to learn our boys had much in common; both belonged to a frat, attended the School of Business and returned often to visit friends. These similarities combined with being a parent made the news this tragedy that much more heartbreaking. I can only imagine how painful this has been and there are no words that can express my sorrow. As I search for some words of comfort, I am reminded of what my son spoke of after attending Billy's services on Friday evening. He spoke of the love that surrounded Billy and of the beautiful words for Billy said by both his Dad and his friends. He spoke of laughter regarding Billy's forgetfulness, his misfortune with many cell phones, and other memories of Billy to be cherished. May these memories along with the many prayers that have been said carry you through your pain and sadness until you find peace and acceptance at the end of this difficult path. May God be with you and your family.

There are no words to express the deep sorrow felt at the loss of your son & brother. I did not know him, but my son met your Billy in the Freshman dorm at RU & they remained friends. He described him as a nice guy and a good kid. As a parent I can only imagine the horror of this tragic loss. Please know I have prayed everyday this week and will continue to do so... For God to give you strength & rest in the days to come, for Billy to be at Peace... And for JUSTICE to be served. May God be with all of you.

I work at a small City Hall in Southern Illinois. Last Monday's staff meeting was hushed as several co-workers reflected on the passing of young Bill. He appeared to be the "All American Boy" and this week we collectively feel, we are mourning the loss of a son.

Dear Mary, Bob, Kelsey, Carrie, and Matty,
Words are not enough to convey the sadness my family and I feel for you on the loss of Billy. We love Billy and the whole Mccaw family so much, and you are all in our thoughts and prayers. It was always such a joy seeing Billy and Bryan together out on the soccer field, as well as seeing my dad and Bob side by side as their coaches. I'll always remember Billy as the shy, funny kid with that big smile. I hope you all find some form of comfort during this extremely painful time, and know that you have an entire community that cares about you. You will all be in my prayers everyday! Rest well, Billy.

My heart goes out to his friends and family. My son Davin is a good friend of Billy's and I have known him since he was 8 years old. I will always remember his smile. He was a good boy. I often sat near his parents at basketball games and they were always so kind and friendly. My heart aches for them. God please give them strength and guidance during this terrible time.
