Harlan Jospeh Gann

1946 - 2025

Harlan J. Gann, of Church Hill, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on February 10, 1946, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Harlan and Dorothy Gann. On June 4, 1964, he married the love of his life, Linda, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion, laughter, and cherished memories. Harlan proudly served as a Trooper with the Maryland State Police and later as a Bailiff at both the Centreville and Chestertown Courthouses. His dedication to public service was matched by his deep commitment to family and community. He enjoyed life's simple pleasures-fishing, camping, listening to music, and rooting for the Orioles and Ravens. But above all, Harlan treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a familiar and beloved presence on the sidelines of countless sports games and school events, always cheering them on with pride. Camping trips with the grandkids were among his favorite memories-especially when he got the chance to beat them at UNO. To know Harlan was to love him. He was kind, warm-hearted, and endlessly devoted to those he cared about. His unwavering support and love for his family reflected his deep values, and his presence in their lives will be profoundly missed. In addition to his beloved wife Linda, Harlan is survived by his son, Dean Gann (Michele); five grandchildren: Jessica Gann (Erik), Kristen Stokes (Brendan), Niki Gann, Matthew Gann (Stephani), and Alexis Berkley (Alec); and ten great-grandchildren: Jameson, Addison, Hudson, Ethan, Eli, Emmitt, Benjamin, Dylan, Madalyn, and Makenzi. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Kimberly Gann, whom he missed every single day. We take comfort in knowing they are now reunited, dancing together once again. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30 at 11:00 AM at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Centreville. Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Harlan's memory may be made to Compass Regional Hospice, 160 Coursevall Drive, Centreville, MD 21617. "What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose.
