Hilda McKiever Obituary

Ms. Hilda Hortense McKiever, 73, daughter of the Founders of McKiever Funeral Home, the late Charles and Maggie Newton McKiever, of Conway, will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Conway. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Monday evening, February 22nd, from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to American Diabetes Assoc., Greenville Office, 16-A Brozzini Court, Greenville, SC 29615.
Ms. McKiever was a 1954 graduate of Whittemore High Scholl, Matriculated to South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, S.C., graduated 1958; attended Atlanta University in Atlanta, Ga., Bluefield State College in Bluefield, W.Va., and received her Master's degree from Pratt university in New York City. She was a librarian for over 28 years in Marion and Horry Counties: Terrills Bay High School, Myrtle Heights Elem. School, Conway High School and Aynor High School until her retirements in 1990.
She was a lifetime member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where she was a member of the Bethlites and the Missionary Society. Civic organizations include: Charter Member of the Conway Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Horry County Retirement Education Association, and the NAACP.
Survivors include her brother-in-law, George L. Williams Sr. of Conway; adopted sister, Thillian "Peggy" Laney of Conway; stepsister, Katherine Fridie of Tinton Fall, N.J.; two nieces, Sandra W. Brown of Conway, and Karen Beatty (Olin) of Loris; nephews, George L. Williams Jr. (Deirdre) of Conway, and Charles McKiever Williams of Lawrenceville, Georgia; grand-niece, Toni Maggie Brown, and grand-nephews, George L. "Trey" Williams III and Garrett Fields Williams, all of Conway; and one great-niece, Jaiden Taniya King.
