William H. "Bill" Murray, 91, died October 11, 2015 at Waccamaw Community Hospital, son of the late Rev. George and Charlotte Washington Murray born on Sandy Island May 11, 1924. He attended school on Sandy Island and Howard High School in Georgetown. He served in the US Navy for 22 1/2 years. Bill did further studies at the University of South Carolina, Coastal Campus. He was a Real Estate Agent and operated Murrays Consulting Service, Inc. The Civic Services rendered are too numerus to mention.
Survivors are his wife of 73 years, Betty Bessellieu Murray, two daughters, Germaine Wilson and Cynthia Murray, two sons, Rex and Kirk Murray, his siblings, Charlotte Sherman and George Murray, Jr., 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great- great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Pawleys Island with Rev. Mitchell Adger, officiating. Burial follows in the Church Cemetery under the direction of McKnight-Fraser Funeral Home, Georgetown. Viewing/Visitation will take place at the church
only Saturday from 11:00 am until the hour of Service.

Yet remembering a wonderful, smart, highly intelligent man. The years have passed and we still miss Mr. Murray. He worked diligently with the Pawleys Island Civic Club for the recreational facility in Parkersville. If you needed Mr. Murray, he was there for you, bringing wisdom, and questions that caused many to think.

I can't believe how much time has passed. Even though time has passed, your memory and influence remains. When this happens, then you know you have made a tremendous difference in the lives of everyone that knew you. Mr. Murray, you were such a man to many of us. Mr. Murray is sorely missed. He was such an intellectual gentlemen and prominent community leader. Often, I think of him and the wisdom he imparted to those willing to listen. Mr. Murray stood proud and tall, yet very approachable, willing to help. Many thanks to the Murray family for sharing him with us.

I just got the news of Bill's passing. He was a good friend, a conselor, and advisor. He told me to hold my head up. . . for a girl just out of Mississippi, he helped me to begin a journey that has served me well. His was truly a life well lived

You and were wife Beth were great people to know. I remembered when Bill was promoted and reported to the Air Force Appellate Review Agency in San Antonio, Texas. He drove from Pawley's Isand, South Carolina to San Antonio, Texas in a beat up Volkswagon Bug with most of his belongings. Initially, I recognized quiet demeanor and I felt he would be eaten alive by the customers we would service. Those individuals were grievance EEO complainers and appelants, however, I later discovered that Bill had this tremendous ability to diffuse people and put them at ease. He had what I called, "the Adli Stevenson's attitude" of diffusing people and having them feel like they were commended for something. I will miss Bill because he was a great friend. Everyone in Pawleys knew and respected Mr. Murray and his entire family. Although many of us have moved away, I always ask how Kirk, Rex Cynthia and Mrs. Murray are doing. I was sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Murray. He was a pillar in the community and he will be missed. My prayer to the entire family. May God Bless and give you strength in the coming days ahead.
