Died: October 13, 2022 in Ottawa, IL
Mary "Lyn" (Hindsman) Prafcke, 99, of Ottawa, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Pleasant View.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at the Mueller Funeral Home, Ottawa with Rev. Satya Sudhakar, Pastor of Epworth United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Lyn was born on October 20, 1922 in Tifton, GA to Jamie and Cleo (Webb) Hindsman. She met her husband, Fred C. Prafcke, Jr., singing in the choir at the Methodist Church in Columbus, GA while he was stationed at Fort Benning. They were married on April 12, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Santa Barbara, CA.
Lyn had many interests and was very active in her adopted community of Ottawa. She was a long-time member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where she established a children's library and loved making beautiful banner for the sanctuary.
She loved art and was an accomplished artist. She painted with oils and watercolors. She took classes at IVCC and the Art Institute of Chicago, and often displayed her art at local shows. She was one of the founding members of the Ottawa Art League. She also had a passion for photography and was seldom seen without her camera taking pictures of everyone who crossed her path and just about everything she could see from a car, bus, or airplane window. Lyn was able to see beauty in everything.
Her trademarks were kindness, thoughtfulness and devotional faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Prafcke of Ottawa and a grandson, Drew Evans.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Fred on January 5, 2008.
Memorials may be directed to the Epworth United Methodist Church or any charitable organization.
