It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of “Andy” Paul Andrew Lock, who left this world unexpectedly on April 3, 2025, at the age of 57. Born on September 16, 1967, in Carrollton, MO, Andy was well-known in the restaurant industry as the founder and co-owner of Summit Hospitality Group, with multiple restaurants across the Kansas City area like Summit Grill, Third Street Social, Boru, Pearl Tavern, South of Summit and Neighborhood Cafe. Renowned for his sophistication in food and drink, he was more than just a businessman; he was a role model for countless individuals in the hospitality sector. Andy poured his heart into his work, nurturing and guiding his employees as if they were part of his family. Andy was, and will always be, a beloved husband, father, grandfather-'Grandy', son, brother, and friend.

Andy attended the University of Missouri (Mizzou), where he proudly served as captain of the football team for two years and continued to bleed black and gold throughout his life. Just as he defended his QB on the field as a blind side lineman, he applied those protective instincts off the field - always looking out for those around him. Andy's early life was marked by discipline and a passion for teamwork. This passion flourished throughout his career, shaping his character into that of a successful gentle giant. His presence was larger than life; Andy possessed an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel valued and cherished, always giving more than he received. He was optimistic and positive—indeed, a true "cup half-full" individual.

Andy’s devotion extended far beyond his professional life. His love for his family was boundless--a dedicated family man--and at the center of his world were his dear wife, Laura, his son Drew, his daughter Claire, and his cherished grandson, Layton Andrew Lock. His pride in their achievements radiated from him, especially during their athletic events—these moments were the proudest treasures of his life. Andy will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 29 years, Laura (Albert) Lock; son Drew Lock (wife Natalie); daughter Claire Lock (fiancé Trey Vickers); grandson Layton; parents Jerry and Carolyn Lock; siblings Adam Lock and Amy Kaiser; as well as many other dear family members and friends.

Andy lived a life filled with the things he loved most—great food and drink, sports, and, above all, his family. His deep appreciation for culinary experiences inspired him to create joyful, memorable moments for everyone who walked through the doors of his restaurants. With a true passion for hospitality, Andy had a natural talent for bringing people together through thoughtfully prepared meals and warm, welcoming experiences. He found genuine pleasure in the simple joys—savoring good food, sharing a glass of wine or whiskey, and being surrounded by the people he cared about. Coaching youth sports, especially his children’s teams, brought him immense pride and happiness. Known for (almost) never missing a game, Andy was a constant presence on the sidelines—encouraging, cheering, and always showing up for his children.

The suddenness of his passing has left a void that cannot be filled. Andy was a man who always gave more than he received, a true embodiment of generosity and compassion. Andy Lock's legacy will forever be remembered through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering spirit.

All services will be held at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, 130 NW Murray Road, Lee's Summit, MO, on Saturday, April 12th. Visitation will be held from 9am to 11:30am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial. We invite all whose lives were enriched by Andy to join us in celebrating a remarkable man who was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to help establish the Andy Lock Memorial Scholarship Fund, where donations will be used to support his passion for the hospitality industry and those working in it, as well as to local community charities that reflect Andy’s dedication in helping others. To donate by mail, please make checks payable to: GKCRA RE: Andy Lock, 1417 W. 47th Street, Kansas City, MO 64112, with "Andy Lock" on the check memo. To donate online: click this link to be redirected to Andy Lock's Memorial Scholarship Fund.
