John Monroe “Roe” Hobson, Sr., 86, passed away Saturday morning September 14, 2024 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born December 13, 1937 in Yadkin County to the late Dewey Wesley Hobson and Pansy Mae Miller Hobson. Mr. Hobson was employed by IBM for 30 years working and teaching classes in various cities. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and Baptist Men’s Director. Mr. Hobson enjoyed playing golf, watching sports (especially Carolina), and farming. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Julia Hobson Brown, and son-in-law Tommy Stiles. Surviving are his wife Connie Wilkins Key Hobson; children Kim Hobson Stiles, Sonny (Gina) Hobson; step children Denny Key, Jr., Amanda (Bradley) Shore, Carmen Shaw, Michael (Krissi) Hobson, Mark Turner (Anna) Hobson; grandchildren Keely Hobson, Dustin Hobson, Brandy Lytle, Travis (Scotti) Stiles, Jenna Stiles, Charlsie Key, Parker Shore, Elliott Shore, Lila Key, Worth Shore; great grandchildren Connor, Colby, Wyatt, Ryker, Hunter, Jacob, Josie; brother Garnet Wesley (Lorraine) Hobson; and several nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Union Grove Baptist Church in Yadkinville, by Rev. Kenny Gooden and Rev. Richard Odom. Full Military Honors will be given by VFW Post 10346.  Mr. Hobson will lie in state 30 minutes before the service from 1:30 2:00 PM in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to say a very special thanks to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the loving care given to Mr. Hobson and his family members. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 243 N. Lee Avenue, Yadkinville, NC 27055 or to Union Grove Baptist Church, 2401 Nebo Rd., Yadkinville, NC 27055.
