Alvie DeWayne Alger, 86, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, in
Cedar City, Utah. He was born on November 1, 1938, in Price, Utah, to Alvie Don Alger and Zelma Merle Limb Alger.
DeWayne grew up in Milford, Utah. While scoping out the girls attending church in Enoch, he first laid eyes on Marilyn Richardson. He eventually "snookered" her into marrying him on July 20, 1957-a decision that led to a lifelong partnership filled with love and service.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force, where his mechanical aptitude led to his assignment as the crew chief of a B-29 aircraft. After completing his active duty, DeWayne and Marilyn settled in Enoch, Utah, where they raised their family.
DeWayne wore many professional hats throughout his life. If a job became too routine, he'd seek out a new challenge. He owned and operated a well-drilling business, Alger Pump Sales, and worked at Cedar Builders Supply (three different times), sharing his extensive plumbing knowledge. He managed the farm and dairy for the Cedar North Stake. Eventually, he found his true calling working in the maintenance department at Southern Utah University, specializing in heating and air conditioning. There, he was able to put his wide range of experience to good use until his retirement in 2000.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, DeWayne and Marilyn served five missions together. These included two consecutive missions at the Church's Cattle and Citrus Ranch in Florida, a mission at the Deseret Land and Livestock Promontory Ranch in Utah, and a special call from Elder D. Todd Christofferson to help coordinate rebuilding efforts in Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina. The St. George Temple Maintenance Mission was their fourth service mission. Their final mission was a member support assignment in Fort Worth, Texas. When not on formal missions, they served as temple coordinators in the St. George Temple.
DeWayne is survived by his children: Alan, Bryan (Shanna), Sheri (Dave Alldredge), Becky (D. Covington), Coleen, Bonnie (Nolan Merritt), and Joy (Chad Hardin).
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn Richardson Alger; children Edmund Alger (Debora), Jeannette Alger, and Renee Alger; grandson Barry Alldredge; and siblings Alvie Don Alger and Joyce Elaine Straley.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 451 East Midvalley Road, Enoch, Utah. Interment will follow in the Enoch Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. To share online condolences, please visit www.mortuary.org.
The Family has requested no flowers. They invite you to honor DeWayne's memory by donating to your local ward mission fund or to the general mission fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. DeWayne had a deep love for missionary service and would love others share in that experience.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Three Peaks Assisted Living and Memory Care. We will always remember the humor, kindness, and dignity they brought to DeWayne's life during his final months.
