In Loving Memory of
Aaron M. Mate
7/02/1966 – 11/26/2024
Bongbong, a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us on November 26, 2024 at the age of 58 after a long and courageous battle with an aortic aneurysm that lasted more than a decade. Aaron Gorgonio Mendiola Mate, or better known as "Bongbong" to his family and closest friends, is the 9th child and the youngest son of former Tacloban City Mayor Uldarico and Luz Mate.
Born on July 2, 1966, he was a man of unwavering love, kindness, and humor, whose presence filled every room with warmth. He was a simple man, ambitious and risk taker for his family. In his early years, Bongbong, as a devoted Catholic, served as an altar boy and had been a Hermano Mayor in honor for the feast of Sto. Nino in Tacloban City, Philippines. And just like his father, leadership runs in their blood, he served as Chairman in a local Barangay unit in Tacloban City (2007 to 2010). Following in the footsteps of his father to become a leader who inspired those around him with his wisdom, integrity, and generosity.
In 1992, he met his loving wife Maimai, and they were married on June 22, 1994 – 30 years married. Eventually blessed with 2 children, Christian and Michelle. As a father and grandfather, he was the heart of his family. This year 2024, he celebrated as a first-time grandfather to his grandchild Jared Aaron Nahvine, (named after him) when his grandchild was born on the same month as his. It is his pride and joy and cherished every moment spent with them even when he was abroad. He was always there with open arms, offering love, guidance, and laughter. His influence as a father and grandfather will be felt for generations, as he passed down not only his values but also his joyful spirit and sense of humor.
His laughter was infectious, he was also a devoted brother, uncle, and friend, making everyone feel valued and loved and his care for others knew no bounds. He is survived by his mother Luz, sisters Naida, Nancy, Bambie, Victoria and Sarah; and his brothers Ricky and Patrick. He is now with our Lord God Creator together with his other siblings Yoly, Cecelia, Rudolph and father Daric.
He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and love, and though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of his life will be held on December 3, 2024 Tuesday, 11:00am to 3:00pm at:
