Abdon R. "Pokey" Martinez, born on July 30, 1937, in Runge, Texas, was a man of strength, tenacity, and an enduring love for his family and friends. His life was a testament to the virtues of hard work, dedication, and resilience. A long-time resident of Beeville, Texas, Abdon was known and respected for his career as a commercial truck driver. Over the years, he built a reputation for his unwavering commitment and reliability, making him a beloved figure in his community.
Abdon was preceded in death by his parents, Pioquinto and Maria Rangel Martinez, his brothers Victor and Julio Martinez, and his sisters Lidia Martinez-Castillo and Carrie Trlica.
Abdon's life was enriched by his loving family. He married his wife, Juanita Licona Martinez, on October 17, 1959, marking the start of a love story that would span six decades. Together, they raised three beautiful children: Elizabeth "Lisa" Hernandez, Sandra (Armando) Urquizo, and Ruben (Sylvia) Martinez. Abdon's love for his family extended beyond his immediate kin, as he cherished his grandchildren / great grandchildren, Gabriela Hernandez, Desiree Trevino (Avery Trevino), Adrian (Amy) Hernandez (Aubree and Ariana Hernandez, Sophia Torres), Aaron Martinez (Alicia (Joe) Martinez, Alejandro and Aiden Martinez, Daniel Angel), Albert Martinez (Julian Martinez) and Andrew (Nikki) Martinez. Abdon is also survived by his brothers, Paul and Manuel Martinez.
A visitation for Abdon will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 5:00pm - 8:00pm at Trevino Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00pm. The Funeral Mass will take place the following day, Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 10:00am at St. James Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Adrian Hernandez, Andrew Martinez, Albert Martinez, Aaron Martinez, Armando Urquizo, and Juan Gutierrez.
Abdon's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and resilience. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him.
