Abigail Ann Sterling, 27, of Dallas, Texas and formerly of Beaumont passed away on November 10, 2023.
Abby was born on May 18, 1996 in Beaumont Texas to Paula Ann Brindza Sterling and Kyle Moye Sterling Sr. She graduated from West Brook High School in 2014 and was voted Miss Westbrook and Homecoming Queen for her class. Abby lettered four seasons at third base for the Bruins and is West Brook’s only 4 time all district athlete in team sports. She also played for the select team Hit Away Gold, out of Houston. After graduation she went on to play 3 years of Division 1 softball at the University of Louisiana Lafayette on a full scholarship. She was a two-time Sun Belt Conference Academic All American selection, and was a part of three Sun Belt championship teams. In 2019, she graduated from Louisiana College with a Bachelor's in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations. Shortly after graduation, Abby accepted her first coaching position as the strength and conditioning coach at the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain in Mena, Arkansas. From there, she spent the 2021-22 academic year as an assistant coach and residence life specialist at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas. In September of 2022 Abby joined the UT Dallas softball staff. Her first season there, the Comets reached the ASC Championship Tournament with a 24-18 record. She helped coach eight all-conference selections, including the ASC Tri-Pitcher of the Year. She was a bicycle enthusiast and enjoyed the outdoors. She cherished making memories with her family at their Farm in Warren, Texas. Abby always had a smile on her face and was the most selfless and giving person you could meet. Above all else, she treasured her family.
Abby was survived by her father, Kyle Moye Sterling Sr. of Beaumont; sister, Madeline Sterling Vanderweg and her husband Michael Vanderweg of Nederland; her brother, Kyle Sterling, Jr. of Beaumont; her favorite nephew, Michael Moye Vanderweg of Nederland.
Abby was preceded in death by her grandparents, Marvin and Jane Sterling and James and Ann Brindza; her mother, Paula Ann Sterling who passed away on January 8, 2021. Abby's spirt was unwavering and her energy contagious. The world will be a little darker without her in it.
A gathering of Family and Friends will take place from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Melancon-Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland. A "Celebration of Life" Memorial Service to Honor the LIfe and Memory of Abigail Ann Sterling will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 18th at Melancon-Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland. Private Family Cremation services will be held at a later date.
