Abraham "Abe" Halon, age 77 of Hilliard, Ohio passed away on May 17, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born on May 20, 1946 to the late Dov and Judith Halon in Hadera, Israel where he remained until moving to Columbus, Ohio to complete a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Ohio State University in the late 70's.
Abe had the pleasure of a successful and satisfying career as a Senior Engineer in IT Management for several companies, later owned his own company known as Optimum Performance and authored two text books. He was also an accomplished, naturally-gifted artist.
Abe proudly served his beloved Israel as a paratrooper with the Israeli Defense Forces and was a member of the famous 55th Brigade that captured Jerusalem in the Six-Day War.
In recent years, his favorite pastimes were spending time with his adored grandchildren, attending thrice-weekly meetings with his coffee klatch buddies at Starbucks, teaching Hebrew to young congregants at his Chabad and spending many happy hours in his art studio.
He also loved biking with his daughter, Moriya. Their trail led them to a quiet, peaceful pond where they always stopped for a rest. A bench in his memory has been commissioned for installation in their "special spot" there.
Abe will be remembered for many things but especially the enchanting twinkle in his eyes and an off-beat sense of humor. Often so off, that eye-rolling among his family could be observed.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Connie Halon; daughters, Moriya (Steve) Harpster, Dublin, Ohio; Rinat (Mike) Neal, Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Rosie and Beck Harpster, Dublin, Ohio. Also surviving him are his sister, Rachel (Jacob) Katz; nephew, Ronen (Dolly) Katz; niece, Tali Katz; five great nieces and nephews, all residing in Israel and his special friend and "brother", Naji (Rana) Kezel, Hilliard, Ohio.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the truly extraordinary staff at Kobacker House for their loving, respectful care in Abe's final days.
Abe was laid to rest in a private service at Agudas Achim Cemetery in Columbus,
Ohio on May 19, officiated by Rabbi Areyah Kaltmann of the Lori Schottenstein Chabad Center.
A Celebration of Life is being held from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, Saturday, Sept. 21 at The Burton Residence, 7297 Palmer Court, Dublin, 43017.
