Obituary published on Legacy.com by M. John Scanlan Funeral Home - Pompton Plains on Mar. 26, 2024.
Ada (Rojas) Bohmann was born to Juana and Juan Antonio Rojas in Mariano, Cuba. Ada fled Cuba and began her life in the United States on July 4th, 1962 when she was 18 years old. And yes, the fireworks were for her as she would tell everyone.
While in the US she found and married the love of her life, Edward Bohmann, even though she closed the door on him when they first met on their blind date. Ada and Eddie's love grew and they started their journey together on Dec. 3rd, 1966 in the
Bronx, NY. As their family gained two sons, Stephen and Glen, they moved to Pompton Lakes NJ in 1970. There they became members of St Mary's Catholic Church. In their new home, Ada and her mother were more like family than babysitters for over 100 children throughout the course of 20 years. Affectionately known as Aunt Ada, those now adult children would write, call and occasionally visit with their own children.
She then chose to pursue her college education at William Patterson College while in her 50's. She worked hard and earned her Court Interpreter Certification for Spanish to English Interpreter for the State of New Jersey placing 6th in the state for speed and accuracy. Ada retired from her distinguished career as an interpreter in 2019. During their retirement, Ada and Eddie lived out their time together enjoying each other's company, traveling quite a bit, crafting numerus and varied art "projects", watching the birds, boating on the lake, taking long walks and of course gardening with endless expanses of flowers.
Ada is survived by her devoted husband Edward, son Stephen and his wife Catina, son Glen and his wife Rachel and granddaughter Kyra. Of her childhood family, she is survived by her sister Dalia, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand and great grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Blanca and brother Maximo.
Flowers are welcome to celebrate her life, as Ada was an avid gardener and loved her flowers! In addition, she was a strong supporter of St. Jude's Children's Hospital and would value your support of this great organization in her honor. She will be sorely missed and remembered fondly as a caring, family oriented, artistic, devoted wife, loving mother and a doting Mima who gave freely and loved deeply.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-8pm on Monday, April 1 at Scanlan's Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am on Tuesday, April 2 at St. Mary's RC Church, Pompton Lakes. Interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes.
