Adam Jakubowski Obituary

Published by Tasker Funeral Home - Dover on Mar. 22, 2004.
Adam Jakubowski

Madbury, NH, Adam “Bumpy” Jakubowski of 23 Town Hall Rd., died peacefully at home Saturday, March 20th at the age of 91. He was surrounded by his loving family and Ruth, his devoted wife of 67 years. His faithful cat, Taylor was by his side. Due to the love and support of his wife, family and great granddaughter Amy, Adam was able to live out the last years of his life in the comfort of his home.

On January 1, 1913, Adam was born to Frank and Henrietta (Oslizio) Jakubowski of Newmarket, NH. He attended local schools and enjoyed many years pitching for the Newmarket baseball teams. He was also a valued member of the Newmarket Volunteer Fire Department. On one memorable occasion, he risked his own life saving a collie that had fallen through the ice.

In 1934 Adam met and fell in love with Ruth Walker Wynott. Two years later they married and raised two daughters, Carole and Sandra. They moved to Dover where they lived for over fifty years before building their current home in Madbury to be closer to their loving family.

Adam worked in the shipping department of Macallen Company for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1978. His strong work ethic drove him to work elsewhere for another thirteen years. He also took great pride in caring for his yard and flowers.

Adam had a great love of the outdoors, and an appreciation for animals and nature. He passed this legacy on to his daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Adam played a big role in raising his granddaughter, Vickie and his great granddaughter, Stephanie. They spent seemingly endless hours fishing, walking through the woods and catching frogs. He taught them all he knew about nature and life. He touched their lives in countless ways.

Survivors include: his wife, Ruth; his two daughters, Carole Herring and Sandra Daum; his five grandchildren, Vickie Herring, Sandra Herring, Tracy Nugent, Courtney Ritchings, and Lindsay Daum; his five great grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Boyd; and a special nephew, Walter Schultz.

A grandson, Jason Daum, his parents and four siblings predeceased him.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday from 2:00to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday March 25th at the Tasker Funeral Home with Rev. David Slater, minister of the First Parish Church, Congregational officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover.

It is requested that there be family flowers only and those who wish are invited to make memorials in his name to the First Parish Church, Building Fund, 218 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820, the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, 262 County Farm Rd., Dover, NH 03820 or the charity of one’s own choice.

Bumpy will surely be missed by you and all that knew him. I for one will remember his love for blueberry picking, sharing them and of course eating them. He was everybody's Bumpy.

In Loving Memory of Bump,

Lenny (Nenny)

We were neighbors of Adam and his family on Littleworth Rd. in Dover for 16 years. We have such fond memories of Adam, Ruth and family. Any trip we take to Dover would always include a brief visit with our former neighbors. We often think of them. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
