Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bolock Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. - Cresco on Oct. 1, 2025.
Our family patriarch, Adam Joseph Metzger of Pocono Pines gained his angel wings at St. Luke's Hospital - Monroe Campus on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. He was 96 years old.
He was known as Opi to everyone who knew him. He was a blessed man and loved by so many. He had a lifetime rich with love, family, and friends. His legacy of family and hard work will continue to be a guiding force for his son, daughter-in-law, grandsons and their wives, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Opi was born in Romania, the son of the late Adam and Anna (Weisz) Metzger. He worked hard all of his life, starting when he left Romania as a teenager and immigrated to the United States. He was drafted during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Germany as an Occupying Force. After leaving the service, he went into the automotive repair industry where he opened several prosperous businesses. The last being AMEF Auto Repair in Queens, NY, with his good friend and partner Franz Schweitzer, where they repaired cars for the community for many years before passing the business down to their sons. He spent the last few years living in the Poconos where he tinkered in his workshop, chopped wood and tended to his bountiful garden.
He married his soulmate, Magdalena Winter Metzger and had two sons, Gary and Richard. Gary passed away at the young age of 18. Richard married the love of his life, Lynda and they had two boys, Christopher and Sean. Opi cherished his grandsons Christopher and his wife Lori and Sean and his wife Alison with all of his heart. His great-grandchildren Liliana, Dominic, Claire and Lennon brought him so much joy as he watched them play and gobble up his infamous apple pancakes.
The list of people who loved Opi is long. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews Helga Becking (Vincent, predeceased), Ingrid Huber (Richard), George Ritter (Elisabeth) Albert Lukas (Sarah), and William Graf (Della). He will also be missed by Nelson and Sarahanne Bates, Mike & Joanne Krapf and their family, Jacqueline Sawyer (Robert) and their son (Henry), Michael Krapf and Nicholas Krapf, and many other friends who were like family who all adored him.
Predeceasing Adam were his parents Adam and Anna Weisz Metzger, wife Magdalena, son Gary, siblings Susanna Metzger Graf, Anna Metzger Ritter and Marianne Metzger Lukas; brothers-in-law William Graf, George Ritter, Albert Lukas; and his niece Laura Kuck.
Although we are heartbroken, we feel grateful to all of our family and friends who visited, texted, called and prayed for him over the last few weeks. We know that he will be welcomed into the loving arms of his wife and their son as they visit with all of their other angels who will now wrap him in love as he spends eternity in Heaven.
