Adele Persky (nee Sacks) passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on November 29, 1931, in Bound Brook, NJ, she was the youngest daughter of Joseph and Belle Sacks. She attended local schools, and then went on to study music at the David Mannes School in New York City, where she won a violin scholarship with William Kroll, and later played in concerts in NYC and Chicago. She married Samuel H. Persky in 1959, and shortly thereafter, they moved to Springfield, PA to raise their family. After their two daughters were grown, she studied Hebrew and Creative Writing at Temple University, Gratz College and the University of Pennsylvania. She wrote poetry in Hebrew and English and her poems have appeared in The Jewish Frontier, Poet and other publications. Her book of poems, In the Heart of the Flame, was published in 2002. She loved to travel, and traveled throughout the U.S., and Europe, and to Israel and Mexico. She volunteered at Jewish Family Service of Philadelphia, the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association, and Haverford Hospital, and was a member of Delaware County Hadassah and Temple Sholom in Broomall, PA. She was predeceased by her husband, and by her sister, Bernice Thomas. Survivors include her daughters Susan O’Brien and Fan Levin, and her grandchildren Seth Levin and Samantha Levin.
