Adrian Leahy Obituary

Adrian J. Leahy, Jr.
Adrian (Ade) Leahy Jr. was a beloved husband, a proud and loving grandfather, a cherished friend, and the most dedicated Yankees fan you could ever hope to meet. He was a man with an old-fashioned, stoic strength from a different era: never boastful or loud, but always steadfast, honest, sturdy, and true.
His quiet decency and insightful intelligence needed no boasting - it was evident to those who knew him in the way he lived his life and loved his friends and family: reliably, consistently, and without fail. Ade was a man you could depend on. Always.
He was born on December 13, 1944, in Bridgeport, CT, and passed away on January 7, 2026, at St. Vincent's Hospital, with his wife, Maryanne Leahy and their daughters, Jolene Dobbin and Sherri Hay-Feighery by his side. He is also survived by his sons-in-law, Mike Feighery and Josh Dobbin, his grandchildren, Justine and Jacinda Dobbin and Tyler and Jake Feighery, his nieces and nephews, Karen Caisse, Patrick and Kevin Barry, and Megan Apicello and Brian Leahy. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Leahy, sister, Maureen Barry, and his beloved brother-in-law, Fred.
Ade attended St. Thomas Aquinas School, graduated in the class of 1962 at Roger Ludlowe High School, and received his Bachelor's degree at the University of Bridgeport and his Masters in History from the University of Hartford. A student of History, Ade participated in it as well. He enlisted to serve in Vietnam, knowing that in doing so, his younger brother, Edward, would not be called upon for combat duty. Like most things he did for others, this was done without complaint or question. When he returned from war, Ade quietly carried and honored the memories of many friends and fellow service members who did not.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for the Town of Fairfield and City of Norwalk. In true Ade Leahy fashion, he was there reliably for years and the only complaint he ever faced was that he never took his allotted vacation or sick time.
There were constants in Ade's life: famously, his many daily newspapers, Schaefer beer, Maxwell House coffee, and his deli orders of baloney (Boar's Head only). Also constant was his love and devotion to his wife, Maryanne, with whom he had a special kind of romance. Sarcastic, playful jokes shared between them were always said with a smile and the surety that their bond was inseparable and shining, forever. A chance encounter many years ago at the Lemon Tree Cafe, in Fairfield, was the luckiest day in both of their lives; they were a pair made only for each other. Their home together was always a welcome place of laughter, bustle, food, and played host to a raucous annual St. Patrick's Day party that was full of good friends, cheer, and the best corned beef sandwiches.
Adrian Leahy was a grandpa who showed up to every baseball, basketball, or football game his grandsons played, and every singing recital, play, or dance competition his granddaughters were in. He was a comforting, reliable constant: You could count on the sun rising in the East, setting in the West, and Grandpa Ade in the stands or audience, beaming with pride.
Ade presented simply, but was the rarest of things: an honest, smart, brave and good man. He was loved and will be sorely missed.
Friends are invited to greet and comfort his family at Shaughnessy Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield, CT, on Friday, January 16, from 3 pm - 6 pm.

Maryanne, I am so sorry for the passing of Ade. My condolences. I'm currently living in Newtown. If you ever want to call me my number is: 203-395-7775
I lost the family home in Lordship/Stratford...then was living on Sunnybank Road with a family...then a friend of mine got me with this lady in Newtown. It's nice and quiet here, thank God. I'm a Manny (a male nanny) for the lady and the kids. Still on the list for low-income housing. When you have some time, please call me. I'd love to catch up with you.
