Adrian Herman "Van" Huizen passed away peacefully in his home on September 27th, 2025. Adrian was born on August 31st, 1920 in Newport News, Virginia. He was the only son of Peiter Van Huizen and Sophia Van Huizen (nee Vander Haas), both immigrants from the Netherlands.

He was predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Angie Van Huizen (nee Van Bolhuis). He is survived by his son John Van Huizen, daughter Nancy Van Huizen Ayers (Richard), and daughter Ann Van Huizen (Steven Torbit). Adrian had two grandsons, Cameron W. Ayers, deceased, and Christopher R. Ayers (Alix Hui). Adrian also had three great-grandchildren, Adrian Ayers of Richmond, Virginia, and Wren Ayers and Ida Ayers of Starkville, Mississippi. The family will always be grateful to Adrian's caretakers, Agatha Poku and Shelley Seabolt, for their care in his final years.

Adrian attended the University of Maryland and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with a Minor in French. He then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He retired from the Navy Reserves as a Lt. Commander in 1968.

After the war, Adrian worked, first for Naval Intelligence as a Current Intelligence Writer, and later for the East Asia Division of the CIA. During those years, his work took him to many parts of the world, especially Indonesia. He continued to enjoy travelling the world after his retirement.

Adrian Van Huizen was a resident of Vienna, Virginia from 1954 to 2025. A graveside service for family and friends will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Southern Poverty Law Center or to your local Public Broadcasting Station would be appreciated.
