Adrian Weems Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. - Cumberland on Jul. 8, 2022.
Adrian Mason Weems, Jr., age 75, of Cumberland, MD passed away July 6th, 2022.
Adrian was born on March 16th, 1947 in Baltimore, MD to Evelyn (Morris) Weems and Adrian Mason Weems, Sr. He soon earned the nickname "Butch" for his constant orneriness and antics as a child.
He attended Kenwood High School and later enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as an engine room machinist. After his discharge from the Navy, Adrian worked in several career fields, including the night club business, New Dominion School for Boys, rental property management, and as an addictions counselor.
He met his wife, Susan (Vicheck) Weems while working at New Dominion. They were married June 8th, 1983. Together, Adrian and Susan became foster parents and spent many years welcoming children into their home before becoming adoptive parents in 1998.
Adrian loved to tell stories of his wild adventures; from surfing and sleeping under the board walk of Ocean City as a teen, to running nightclubs with his friends as a young adult, leading group trips to the Okefenokee Swamp and scaring teens with gators, to starting a singing group with his Navy buddies or hanging his kids up on the fence by their pants. He was never short on tales or funny stories. You could always tell it would be a good one when you saw that mischievous twinkle in his eye.
He enjoyed "the Oldies" and raised his kids on classics by The Monkees, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. As he got older, "fishing" (i.e., napping) at Rocky Gap or building bird houses from his garage workshop helped fill his time. He loved every minute of watching and spending time with all the "littles" in his life.
Adrian is survived by his wife, Susan (Vicheck) Weems, of Cumberland, MD, seven children; Larry Nowakowski, of Shrewsbury, VT, Bobby Lucas and wife Lisa, of Ormond Beach, FL, Caitlin Weems, of Cumberland, Tony Weems and partner Aliyah, of Cumberland, Billie Jean (Weems) Clark and husband Chase, of Rawlings, MD, Adam Weems and partner Kasi, of Macon, GA, and Wesley Weems and partner Katie, of Keyser, WV. Adrian also leaves behind eight beautiful grandchildren, Lucas Nowakowski, Zane Nowakowski, McKenzie Lucas, Mason Lucas, Arabella Weems, Tristian Weems, Renlee Weems, and Alicia Barahona-Weems, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn (Morris) Weems and Adrian Mason Weems Sr., and sisters Glenice (Okel) Clopein, Lorene "Renee" (Okel) Duncan, and Kay (Weems) Winter.
