Obituary
Visiting hours will be held Friday (October 20) from 5:00-8:00PM at the Carroll-Thomas Funeral, 22 Oak Street, Hyde Park. A final viewing will also take place on Saturday (October 21) from 10:30-11:30AM at the Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday (October 21) at 12:00PM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1548 Blue Hill Avenue, Mattapan. Interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Roslindale. Relatives and friends invited.
On October 1st, 2023, at 7:45 am, the world lost Agathe Sebastien, a loving mother with the kindest, most altruistic, and forgiving soul.
Born on October 10, 1944 in Corosse, Savanette in Haiti, to Perome Sebastien and Hypollene Millien, Agathe Sebastien immigrated to the United States in the early Seventies. She settled in Boston, Massachusetts with her then husband, Jordany Delva, where she would vigorously begin the pursuit of the American dream. The first step in that pursuit was obtaining her American citizenship as soon as she possibly could.
While she was infinitely proud of raising her sons, Jean-Fenol, Jean-Terson, Jean Rones, John Woodlon, and John-Weslon, it is her grandchildren that made her exude, literally beam, with that pride. Those grand babies, Isshoni, Xoe, and Londen were the apples of her eye and she tried to spoil them beyond her means.
She deeply loved her mother, and never tired of recounting stories of her mother's kindness and virtue. She was a fan of many disparate styles of music, as well as many genres of television. She was very fond of traveling to new places, which she would have indulged in more, but for her responsibilities at home.
Agathe was a constant fountain of altruism for any and all who crossed her path in need. She was a devout Catholic who remained observant throughout her life.
Agathe suffered unimaginable tragedies in her life--being preceded in death by John Weslon Delva, her youngest son and twin to John Woodlon.
But she was never bowed. Despite her many ailments, she remained indomitable until the end. Those ailments would cause her to retire from her cherished position at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where she was employed for several decades. Those who were fortunate to have cared for her or spend a moment in her presence, would share that in spite of how she was feeling, she never complained, she always made them feel welcome, and left them with a smile.
She is survived by the aforementioned four sons, three grandchildren, her living siblings; Math Sebastien, Peroulon Sebastien, and Alina Sebastien, whom are inconsolable in their grief. She also leaves a multitude of extended family and close, loving friends.
The legacy of love and kindness that Agathe leaves in her wake will never, ever be forgotten.
