Proude, Agnes M. (Tompkins) of Weymouth, formerly of Wollaston, passed away with her family by her side on November 19, 2025.
Loving wife of 59 beautiful years to John Proude. Devoted mother of her four children: Michele Proude and her husband James "Jimbo" Leahy of Hull, the late Marlene Proude of Quincy, John Proude II of Randolph, and Kristen Feetham and her husband Chad of Foxboro. Cherished "Nana" to Aidan, Kiernan, Maddie, and Mallory. Adoring sister of Margaret "Peggy" Tompkins of Hingham, Paul Tompkins and his wife Lou of Randolph, and the late Olive Morin, John J. Tompkins Jr., Mary Panasiuk, Michael Tompkins, and Peter Tompkins. Agnes is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her beloved furry companion, Wolly.
Agnes grew up in North Quincy and while attending North Quincy High School, took her first job at the Midway, where she made lifelong friends and met John, the love of her life. Upon graduation, she worked as a secretary at Boston Gear Works, an opportunity that was the stepping stone she needed to begin what would become a long and
fulfilling career at the Zildjian Cymbal Company.
After marrying John and moving to Wollaston, Agnes continued to work at Zildjian, pausing for a few years to start a family and stay home with her children. When she returned to her job full-time, she worked tirelessly to make her way through the ranks of the company. This included attending Bentley College for night classes, while continuing to work and raising four children. After over 40 dedicated years at Zildjian, Agnes retired in 2011 as Head of Human Resources.
Agnes filled her home with music and laughter. She instilled in her children the value of "family first" and loved having her children and grandchildren back to her home every Sunday for dinner with Nana and Grampy. She radiated kindness, had endless patience and was known for her incredible sense of humor.
Agnes was a devoted Red Sox fan and beamed with pride when belting out Sweet Caroline at Fenway Park (so good, so good, so good). She loved the beach and spent many weekends (and lunch breaks) at Nantasket Beach. She enjoyed attending the plays, concerts, and sporting events of her grandchildren and was an avid traveler near and far. Whether a quick overnight to Mohegan Sun with John, visits to Disney World with her children and grandchildren, or vacations in the Caribbean, especially her home away from home Aruba, Agnes was always planning her next trip. She will be profoundly missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service Monday November 24, 2025 at 11 AM in the Hamel-Lydon Chapel, 650 Hancock St., Quincy. Visiting hour prior to the Funeral Service 10-11 AM. Burial immediately following in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
