Alan John Beagley, 62 of Rexburg, ID, passed away unexpectedly from a cardio/pulmonary event on September 27, 2025.
Alan was born on July 16, 1963, in Lancaster, California, to John and Shirley Beagley. He was raised in Tooele, Utah where he grew up mucking corrals, riding horses, camping, hunting, and working on cars. He graduated from Tooele High School and later attended Snow College, Utah Tech, and Utah State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Birmingham, Alabama, where he learned to love the South and, more importantly, the people there. While attending USU, Alan noticed a pretty young lady playing the organ in church, and finally, after a lot of teasing, practical jokes, and long, wonderful talks, decided they were officially dating. After a few months, they were sealed for eternity in the Provo Utah Temple on August 10, 1990. They just celebrated their 35th anniversary this past summer.
They had many years of infertility before they were blessed through in-vitro with their daughter Ashlie and two and half years later with Garrett, Justin, and Hallie. Alan and Karen enjoyed a life full of hardships, joy, trials, and adventures. They had just returned from an amazing trip together to St George, where forever memories were made.
Alan worked at Walmart for 32 years, starting out as toy dept manager in Logan, UT. Within a few months, he was promoted to assistant manager in Idaho Falls, co-manager in Ontario OR, store manager in Sunnyside, WA; he then decided that life was not for him and moved Karen back to Idaho where he stayed an assistant manager until his retirement in 2023. He cherished the people he associated with, both those he was managing and those he came in contact with as customers. He LOVED people! After retirement, he started his new career being Papa and Grandpa, the best job ever! Besides being a hubby and dad, having the title of papa was his most favorite. He had a love for his granddaughters that cannot be explained. There is literally nothing he wouldn't have done for each little cutie.
Alan was one of the most hard-working individuals you could ever meet. He was always doing something for his family, neighbors, and friends. Alan put everyone before himself. You would rarely see him doing nothing. Two years ago, he was called to serve in a bishopric on campus at BYU-I. Besides teaching Sunday School to the 13-year-olds, then serving the students on campus has been his favorite calling ever. He has mentioned with a smile that he has 160 kids because he considered all of his college kids his own. He has said many times that he never wanted to be released from that calling.
Alan was a true patriot. He loved his country, those that fought for our freedoms and those who currently keep our freedoms alive. He lived a life full of integrity and honesty and often said if he didn't have those two qualities, he had nothing. He loved sports of every kind, could give you stats and commentate the games and races as well…surround sound at its finest. But he avidly loved his BYU Cougars; luckily, Karen was raised with the same love; they went to games whenever possible.
If there is anything that Alan would want to be remembered by, it would be of his fierce love of his Savior, Jesus Christ, his wife, Karen and his love for his children. His time and effort showing love is testament of this. He had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and tried to show it with his actions of serving and helping others. He didn't just talk about it, he acted.
He is survived by his wife Karen; their children Ashlie (Zachary) Jensen, Garrett Beagley, Justin (Celeste) Beagley, and Hallie (Vance) Heiner, his four sweet granddaughters, Remington and Oaklie Jensen and Elizabeth and Alexis Heiner; sister Cheryl (Duane) Skelton, brother Gary (Jessica) Beagley, brother-in-law David Wimmer and sister-in-law Diane DeHart. He also has many nieces and nephews that he loved with all his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law Greg Caldwell and Mike Wimmer.
