Dr. Alan Bello was born on April 25, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Celia and Jack Bello. He passed away peacefully with family by his side on January 19, 2026.

Alan attended Boston Latin School before continuing his education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Tufts University School of Medicine. Following medical school, he proudly served in the United States Navy.

Alan devoted his professional life to caring for others as an obstetrician-gynecologist. He practiced for many years at South Shore OB-GYN, bringing thousands of babies into the world.

Known for his compassion, skill, and calm presence, Alan formed deep bonds with his patients, who truly adored him and entrusted him with some of life's most important moments.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Elaine. Alan was a devoted father and father-in-law to Richard Bello and Lynda Fann of Norwell; Deborah and Jared Webster of Plymouth, and James and Kim Bello of Hingham. Alan was a loving and proud grandfather to Ben and Jacob Webster; Oli, Zach, and Alex Bello; and Hadley, Riley, and Taylor Bello, each of whom brought him immense joy. He is survived by his sister Susan, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to spending time with family and friends, Alan's passions included skiing, sailing, bridge, Chinese Food, and his beloved canine companions Simon and Abbie.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 22nd at 11AM at Schlossberg Family's Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street, Canton, MA. Interment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon.

The family will be sitting Shiva on Friday, January 23rd from 1 – 5PM at the home of Jim and Kim Bello.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (formerly Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (Formerly JDRF)) at www.breakthrought1d.org or a charitable organization of ones choosing.

Alan will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his devotion to family and friends, and lifelong commitment to caring for others. His memory will forever be a blessing.

Dear Rickie, Debbie and Jimmy,
I am very sorry I was not able to be at the shiva. Jack and I attended the funeral service but I never got a chance to talk to any of you.
I feel terrible about the loss of your Dad. He was a very interesting and caring person, besides being so much fun.
You Mom means a lot to me. Our parents, your grandparents, were friends and the relationship continues: Lainey and I have much affection for each other.
Be well, take care of Mom.
With much affection, Sandy Fleishman

Rick,
Our condolences to you and your family on the death of your father. When my late mother Ruth was at Rose Court your father was in rehab there for a while. We had pleasant conversations with him. The first time I met him was when you were a first-year medical student and he brought you to South Shore Hospital to check out the facility. I guess you liked what you saw.

A real happy Memory! from Barbara Carlin.

This happened quite a few years ago....Marcia and Peter Stagg, Lee Rosenberg and I were invited to have lunch with Alan and Elaine in their winter home in Florida in Bonita Springs. So, we 4 jumped into Peter and Marcia' car....the Stagg's and Rosenberg's lived in Boynton Beach and traveled cross the state of Florida to enjoy a sumptuous and elegant lunch hosted by Alan and Elaine in their dining room!! It took us 2+ hours to get there, but it was well worth the time. The conversation that took place between Alan and Peter reviewing some of their escapades early on in their friendship was hilarious and side splitting..... and probably would have lasted longer, if we only had the time to listen. It was a very happy day!

I like to think that Alan has made it his mission to find his beloved cousin Herbie and Peter and Lee. The thought of it makes me smile.

I met alan in the summer of 1957 . He and his cousins took this farmer from N.H. Into the group of friends. I cherish the day we became friends. I will always remember my days sailing and the day I was told to go below and get a couple of life jackets. It was rough sailing that day. As a teenager he always promised to protect me from the big city boys. He did more than once. I will miss my friend. Peter Lewis
