We say difficult goodbyes to Alan Carlos Blanco, who passed away on August 6, 2025. Alan died peacefully with his wife Marsha Blanco and son Benjamin Blanco at his bedside.

Alan is remembered fondly by all for his quick wit, eccentric interests, and sincere kindness. He was born in Colombia, South America where his father was overseeing the building of steel mills with the Coppers Cooperation. He was educated in the United States and graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1969. Inspired by his hero Roberto Clemente, he was proud to call Pittsburgh his home. He met his beloved wife Marsha in 1978, and enjoyed a rich lifelong marriage, which welcomed two sons into this world.

Respected as an expert in his field, Alan was selected by his peers and was honored by inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America. He received his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and was the Executive Editor of the Pitt Law Review. Following a clerkship with a federal judge, he joined the Rothman Gordon Law Firm where he practiced employment and labor law for 35 years. His mentor and friend Lou Kushner ESQ. remarked that "Alan had everyone's respect and admiration - including opposing counsel. He was brilliant and analytical, but he was also the nicest, most compassionate, kindest lawyer that I ever worked with." Most recently Alan was Of Counsel with the Jordan Law Firm.

During his career, he generously devoted hours as pro-bono legal counsel. He was especially fond of the Frank Sarris Public Library and its mission to connect people with ideas, information, and innovative services. There, he became known for both his passionate defense of education, and for his adoration of Pennsylvania's rich tapestry of small towns. His soul was at home in tranquil settings - the Great Lakes, deep forests, and quiet places underappreciated by most.

He is predeceased by his parents, Carlos Filippe Antonio Blanco and Jeanette Eisenbud Blanco, and son, Adam Carlos Blanco. He is survived by his wife, Marsha, son Benjamin, daughter-in-law Julia Betts, sisters-in-law Barbara Gatti and Deb Weaver, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and his "other family," the Bockman's. His niece Gloria Gatti reminds us that his "gentle and kind soul did not comprehend the word 'no.' It was always 'we'll see,' with a cheeky grin and a heartfelt cackle."

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. His legendary warmth will be missed by every life he graced. He was a king among fathers, and without him, there will never be another perfect day.

Please make memorial contributions in his name to the Frank Sarris Public Library, 35 North Jefferson Avenue, Canonsburg, PA 15317.
