On December 24, Alan Bart Bookman passed away in Pensacola, Florida surrounded by his family. He was 74 years of age. Alan is survived by the love of his life and wife of 18 years, Connie Curran Reeves Bookman; his children Jyl Jackson, Richard Jackson, Alison Bookman Skidmore, Don Skidmore, James J. "J.J." Reeves, II, Lindsay Reeves, Darcy Curran "D.C." Reeves, and his five granddaughters whom he adored so much, Sarah, Lauren, Leighton, Abbie and Caroline. He is preceded in death by his father Melvin Bookman, his mother Jeannette Bookman and beloved sister, Judy Bookman Rudman.
Alan was born on November 28, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana, sharing a birthday with his sister, Judy Rudman. He graduated from Tulane University in 1969, earning his Bachelor of Science, and continued to Tulane University School of Law in 1971, earning his Juris Doctorate. After graduating, Alan began his law career with the U.S. Army's Judge Advocate General Corp., where he served in a variety of legal capacities, including Senior Defense Counsel and Chief of Military Justice. In 1975, Alan joined Emmanuel Sheppard & Condon Law Firm in Pensacola, Florida where he spent the duration of his legal career. His expertise and caliber of practice is celebrated through many awards including AV Rating, Martindale-Hubbell, Super Lawyer, Florida Legal Elite, Florida Super Lawyers, Martindale-Hubbell "2014 Top Rated Lawyer in Real Estate Law", and Martindale-Hubbell "2016 Top Rated Lawyer in Litigation". Alan devoted his life to the practice of law and leaves behind an incredible 44-year legacy through his service to The Florida Bar, Florida Supreme Court, American Bar Association, The Florida Bar Foundation, Escambia Santa Rosa Bar Association, Northwest Legal Services, Inc., Escambia County Legal Aid Society, Florida Lawyers Mutual Insurance, and Judicial Qualifications Commission. His most notable accomplishment was serving as President of The Florida Bar from 2005 to 2006. Alan also served his community through many civic and philanthropic capacities, including Bnai Israel Synagogue, Temple Beth El, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida, Gulf Coast Kids House, and many others.
Alan will always be remembered as an ethical attorney and respected leader, "one of the good guys".
A memorial service for Alan is scheduled for Monday, December 27, 2021, at 11 am at Temple Beth-El 800 North Palafox. There will also be a Live Stream of the services for anyone who can't make the services by going to the Photos & Videos Tab on the Obit page or to this link,
